Anyone recharge DI resin?

So I bought a hole system the other day and the guy gave me the chemicals to do recharge DI and papaerwork "directions" for doing this. Anyone else doing this?

I've thought about doing this as well. I've started saving my spent resin but am waiting to build up a decent amount to make it worth while. I figure about 2 gallons makes it worth while.

I used the BRS color changing DI resin and easy fill cartridges in the past. Definitely need to recharge the DI resin. Typically TDS measured out of RO membrane and then out of DI resin. 0 TDS a must out of DI Filter as last stage.

I use the same DI. My RO pre DI on a long run is 3TDS but when your making 100-200g a week the DI goes pretty fast. I was talking to Drysdale and he said he has a bunch of used DI for free. He was going to recharge it but doesnt have the time so if someone needs some he has it. Its a pretty simple process but the chemicals are nasty strong. If someone needs the budget recipe for this PM me and I will send it to you. I dont want to post it.

Hey, that's Mr. Drysdale... Or Doug - that works too.
Sirrealism, did you get the email I sent you with re-gen directions? They were very detailed. Here's where most of my info came from:

I have at least 20 gal of spent DI resin for free for anyone who wants to help keep this out of a landfill and never buy resin again. I just don't really want to work with bulk quantities of lye or muriatic acid. You guys should make this a club project. Give a bag of DI resin to all the members!

yes I did "Doug" Also got some from another guy and they are the very same ones. Thank you for that. I will be saving all of mine 2. How much does DI go for? sell re-gen for 1/3 to cover the cost of chemicals which are cheap anyway. From what I read you get 100% back out of it. Not like when you regen it you loose 10 or even 5%. Nothing accept what you spill

I guess I missed the boat on this. Why is this the first time I have heard about a 99% rejection membrane. Going to look at BRS to see if they sell it. Since I run 2 membranes I wonder if this will work. What are you getting for TDS before DI. Thought I was doing pretty good at 3 TDS before DI. How much water are you getting per hour with these membranes? I really hate this hobby sometimes. As soon as I think I am up to date they change the game again!!!

I was about to jump on the 99% membrane and calculated that my Filmtech 75 gpd's take 250 ppm TDS source water down to 3 ppm. Assuming my morning math is correct, that's 98.8% rejection.

Sirrealism, what is your input TDS?
Cheers,
"Doug" :)

I don't know if I trust the "99% rejection" gimmick. Its true the RO system works more efficient with softenend water so it's possible to have higher rejection rates. I can't recall any other RO membrane manufacturer stating rejection values while using a water softener, my guess is that all membranes will also have higher rejection rates if used with a water softener.

As Tampasnooker says, check the ratio of your input to output and find the current systems rejection rate. You may already be at or close to 99%.

I know my TDS of my tap is 265 so TDS of 3 before DI is pretty damm close to 99%. I think I have some cheap DI since it is spent after 100g. I get it at a LFS and its cheap so thats prob it. Then again I used to run 2 DI and pulled one off line so it just seems like I am refilling it a lot.
