Anyone running a generator?

You wont regret it steve. Someday you'll need it. Got the new Ca rector up and running on Sunday.

I have a line on one like this:

Kind of expensive, but it come on automatically when the power goes out and runs on natural gas (or propane). Can practically run your whole house during an outage, if you really want that. I might be able to work out a slightly better price than shown, but still waiting on some details. I know an electrian that has one installed at his house and has installed half a dozen or so others in our area.

Thanks for the info Johns! What is installation running?

Hey Nait! I'm running water through the plumbing today. Did it yesterday and had a dripper. So, take 2 today.

installation is roughly $500.

i'm probably still a few months away from doing this. we almost pulled the plug and had a unit installed last fall. then decided to wait to pour a concrete extension onto our patio so that it could sit on something solid. now waiting for the weather to clear and for the electrician to get back to me to see if he can help me on the price.

I'd be interested to see what he says for a $$. Do you think it to be cheaper than Home Depot? I just recently saw some Guardian units there.

We'll see. I have no guarantees on a price yet. I know back in the fall I almost bought a different model, and it was going to be probably around $500 less than the price at the Northern site:

But I dont know if the same will apply to the other models. And actually, prugs is right. The ones I am linking to are probably overkill. They can take over quite a bit of your home fuctions in a power outage. If you want something just for the tank, the one prugs shows is more than enough. I may still go with that one as well, but I am not totally sure yet.

Another thing I have been looking it is the ones with the 'QuietSource Whisper Test'. These things automatically test themselves once a week for 10 minutes or so, and they can be pretty loud. Like running a lawn mower or maybe a a bit louder. The quiet source ones are supposed to reduce the noise during the testing.
