i have a 120g. and i am considering adding a 3rd halide in center of hood over center brace. i will use ceramic tile to deflect heat from brace...........BUT i am wondering how much light is rendered useless from the center brace?

Well in my big 230g tank i have it Uro-braced with glass but in my 75g oceanic i have a huge blace center brace about 3.5in and i know im looseing some light. But not as much as im loosing down the over flow!!

so you're running 3 halides on your 75g? or 1 over center brace for whole tank?
either way, how much IYO do you lose?

I take it that you have a 5' 120g tank try a new reflector like the lumanarc 3 they have a 3' light spread and go with 400watters. IMO it would be a waste of money to run a third hailide if you dont have a 6' tank more money up front for the light and for electricity in the long run. What wattage hailides are you running now?

its a 4'x2'x2' 120g........i'm running 2x175W CV ReefLux 12K's now.
unless i can find a good deal on 2x250, i was gonna add a 3rd above brace.

one 250 with 2x96w actinics. And just so hapens that the bulb was right over the center brace in the middle. And i did notice that the center brace kills off some light thats why i sold it and then replaced it with my old 4x96w PC fixtures. But like i said i was smushing two pc fixtures together to make up for the light i had. I should have went with the 2x150 w/ 2 96w pc so then the bulbs would have been on either side of the tank.
