Anyone seen hummingbirds yet?

Any chance you can get some pics of the different species we dont see here in NY? That would be awesome!

This is Allen's Hummingbird. One cool thing about this bird is that as recently as 10 or so years ago it was only found on islands off the coast of California but for reasons unknown it has moved to the mainland where it is doing really well.

Anna's Hummingbird used to have very small breeding ranges in California but as people started planting new flowering trees on a large scale the breeding range expanded to match.

Black Chinned Hummingbirds are one of the most common and most widely distributed hummingbirds in the western half of the country.

Not yet,Feeders are out and just waiting.

yeah they do rest on your fingertips its a weird feeling. their little claws hang on tight.
when I lived in Colorado I had Hummies but then I had a Roufus come to visit and none of the others would visit anymore I guess because Roufus are territorial and a bit mean..

Our first hummingbird was at the feeder this afternoon. We saw him several times during the day and they always feed at dusk. I think they like to fill up before bed.

I saw a couple yesterday for the first time this year.Today it was 34 degrees with 30 mph NW winds so welcome to Alaska for a bit here.It feels like winter so I doubt I will be seeing any hummingbirds today,A penguin would probably be more likely

Seen my first one here on mothers day This morning I looked out and nector is frozen and frost on the ground ughhhh lol

Mine seem to have left; I was using just about 3c every three days. At times it was almost unnerving sitting on the porch with the feeders. I filled up Monday, and today is the first morning I could enjoy coffee outside; there are no hummers and the feeders are barely touched. Hoping a few northern birds decide to stop for a few days. Also saw the Loons and Cormorants flocking up in the Adks last weekend.

Yep,me too.they were dive bombing us last week while we were on the deck with many visiting the feeders daily and this week,none.Funny thing though its still 90+ degrees.seems too early for them to be gone.

howdy bud,yea I wish I didnt break it at all.lol.It is really not up to my minimum size limit for a colony to be fragged.Its only a 2 or 3 inch mini now but I am sure by the Jan 2011 swap it will be big enough to offer a decent amount of frags.There were only 2 decent ones broken off and one tiny frag.They sold out as soon as they hit fragswapper.

I gave them fresh "hummer juice" yesterday and I'm still getting a little traffic, but this may be the last batch. This is about the time they left town last year. It still astounds me that those tiny birds will end up in Mexico! How do they do that?

I think many end up even further south than that. We used to say the hitchhiked in the down of a goose.
