anyone tried the DIY sump kit sold on ebay?

Acrylic does expand in saltwater and it can cause glass to break, so if you do decide to make sure they're not only just able to fit. Also acrylic to glass isn't a great bond. Lots of people do use acrylic baffles in glass sumps without issue though.

Any one tried one of those diy sump kit where you buy the acrylic panels and silicone it yourself to a standard glass tank ?

is assembly easy? does it work well?

it seems like a more economical option than buying a ready made sump.

some examples

price range is quite wide.

I can probably buy and cut acrylic (or glass) for even less, would just look ugly.

I used to use them but aquarium caulk doesn't bond well to acrylic and I got tired of having to make a new sump every year. Bite the bullet and buy 1/4 glass.

Why? You need to caulk the ebay ones too..

Use painters tape to mask off and create perfectly clean silicone joints..
But yes.. as stated for a couple reasons acrylic is not a good idea with a glass tank..
