Anyone try AuraLed?

I got my Auraled lights yesterday and they make the lights on my other tanks look like garbage. These lights are incredibly bright. And unlike most of the LED setups I have seen that shine straight down these ones light up my whole tank(ZERO DARK SPOTS.) As far as par readings go, my lfs doesnt have a meter I can use and I am currently trying to scrape up $300 for the "Apogee mq 200." Hopefully I can get one soon.
 
glad to hear you like the lights...what kind of color combo did you go with bubba? I have been speaking with rob and am just about to pull the trigger on a 48" fixture with red/white/blue LED's, each color wirelessly dimmable for $800.

I currently have 2x250W MH light fixture and was going to purcahse two reefbrite LED strips....but for the 48" HO RB strips, two of them put me just at about 800. Why not go ALL led's for that price?
 
My setup has 3 rows of whites, 3 rows of blues, and a row of reds in the middle. I bought my tank used and it came with a (mogul) metal halide fixture, but with the tank being in my mantown in the basement the metal halide was out of the question. The tank alone makes the room hot, let alone putting a metal halide light and then most likely a chiller. So LED was the only option for me.

Hi, not sure if you're aware, but there's a club in CT called CTAR's (Ct Area Reefers). They do have a Par meter that you could borrow and take readings. (Wish you didn't live in the corner of the state, I'd love to take a look).

On eBay, the seller says no bulb replacement for 3 years...that is pretty weak for leds . And would that also mean that you have to buy a whole new fixture?
 
Well, 50,000 hours or 5.7 years is the standard for modern LED's...they actually offer a 3 year guarantee which I think is exceptional...I would think there would be a decent chance these guys arent even around after 3 years...doesent mean i wont be purchasing from them....heck AI only offers a 1 year warranty, and they are one of the top manufacturers. Still waiting for some addtional pictures:bounce3:
 
Everyone else lists by hours, so if you assume a 10 hour light cycle a 50,000 hour bulb should last you almost 14 years, auraled says change bulbs at 3 years is that continuously on or considering 8 to 12 hours a day. that's what I don't like about these guys, no data sheets, no "real" information.

I'm surprised they have not yet invested in a webpage to show their products.
 
sorry glumac...i have never seen any led light fixture that is said to last 14 years.....once again....the modern standard for LED lights is 50,000 constant on, which is about 5.7 years.....auraled is offering a 3 year guarantee, where other top manufacturerse only offer 1 year guarantee. sure you may get 2 years out of it and have to replace it....same chance with a nanotuners fixture or any other though...you also might get 7 years out of it with nominal use....14 years for any fixture is just not perceivable.

I do agree with you though that they could reinforce their buisness with a decent website and faster email response. I am thinking that these guys are still pretty new/small time....otherwise why wouldnt they have a website?:hammer:

I'm on day 2 waiting for a response from Rob the owner, from what I have heard they are really busy and responses can take a couple days.
 
Yes 50,000 hours constant on, but if you consider only 10 hours a day on, that makes 14 years. If you only ran it for 1 hour a day it would be 137 years! The auraled guys say 3 years and they do not specify if that is constant on or a given number of hours per day. These are all things that would be good to know.

But really the 3w leds have not even been out that long so the 50,000 hour thing has to be an estimate.

I was not trying to say there is any led that is good for 14 years constant on, sorry if I worded it poorly.
 
can you show me any led fixtures that have even been in use for 10 years? i think with all the enviromental variables, something would bring it offline well within the 14 year mark, even if used for a couple hours a day...age is age. I think 4-5 years use would be acceptable...after that I would begin to expect something to fail....either from corrosion or some other reason..if you get longer hey then thats great, but you've already paid for your fixture, maybe even twice over, in the savings vs metal halide bulbs and electric.

I totally agree with you on the fact that they need more information out there about their product.

just two single 48" reef brite blue led strips for supplementation are going to put me right about 800 bucks with shipping...I would still be running my dual 250w metal halide fixture too...

If I can get a few reliable years (and the awesomeness of dimmable red/blue/white) w/a full led system, for the same price as adding actinics to my current fixture....i'm sold. I love the "high end" LED systems, but I just cant afford to drop a few thousand to light my tank
 
Sorry guys, I am so computer dumb. I took a few pics of my tank with the Auraleds and dont know how to put them on the forum. Can someone explain to me how to do this.
 
go to www.photobucket.com and create an account, should be pretty self explanatory on how to upload your photos to the new account. Once they are uploaded to photobucket, you should be able to copy the image url via a link they will provide you for each photo uploaded. Then come back here and make a new post..there is a picture icon at the top with a little mountain and sun..if you click that it will open a window for you to paste the url of the pic in. Do this for each picture and youve got them uploaded and posted:fun2:

I know I dont have enough live rock in there Im getting a bunch more tomorrow. the tank is still pretty new. only been running about 5 weeks.
 
Lookin good bubba! Do you have any dimmers for yours? I would really like to see a shot with only whites, only blues, and then only reds if thats possible.
