Urgh, you guys aren't understanding what I'm saying....

It's not the inside that is the problem! I love what's inside. Why would I buy a $40 coral if I wasn't happy how the inside was progressing? It's the SYSTEM. The tank, the stand, the location, it's all BAD.

Yes, I can make additions, like the Tunze and halide, slowly, but it will just be adding things to cover up my unhappiness with the system. If I had a Deltec, Aquatechnik light, 10 Acan Lord colonies, and a pair of Streams, it would still be the same situation. The setup would still be bad.

Yes, money is part of the problem, but I can work for that. I can't redo the system without doing something drastic.

So why not start anew? I'll still have all my equipment, all my rocks, all my corals, all my fish, it will just be arranged and setup differently.

About big fish, I'm 15, I have my whole life to setup a 2,000g (yes I've planned it :D) in which I can house a school of tangs.

A dream of mine was to have species specific tanks, and if I had the money to, I'd have big tanks that are species specific. Yet, I can't work for that much cash, so smaller species specific tanks suit my desires. I think this will be an awesome display, and it will be easier to maintain. With a 135g, most of the water volume is display, and so you have to make the display look nice, via algae scraping, more snails, etc etc. As opposed to 50g of display, where most of the water volume is in the sump. You don't need to really maintain the sump. So it is basically maintaining a 50g or a 135g, and I think I will choose maintaining a 50g.

Yes, a 135g would be spectacular, but I don't see myself accomplishing a feat such as Greg's with my current setup and situation.

yea will your set up is not bad you just have to patient im 15 too and i have been setup sence halloween and right now i have like 35lbs of rock a LMB a YT and a clown on a crappy stand i have to replace now thats bad belive me i hate my tanks guts and i recientally bought a $142 skimmer some thing some wouldnt even think about they just swipe their their card and boom i work and worked for my allowence and a saved up and that skimmer seamed like a gift from god to me they HA out break is finally reciding and i only have a 55 you have a 135 and all the trimmings that i can only dream of like i said before:(

Well if thats really what you want to do then go for it. I think that 3 different tanks would be very cool and since each one will be a different species. I would like to have 3 tanks drilled together but it would be way to complicated for me to plumb and thats what I'm worried about with you. If you can't figure out the plumbing and quit then feel bad for getting rid of the 135. Thats all I'm worried about but I think that you can do this and be successful so go for it!!

I'm a plumbing beast. I will take a picture of my plumbing so you can see. I did it all by myself, my Dad just stood there and drank beer.

Now...now.... Some, if not all, of us DO understand what you're saying. But, we also know you jumped into the 135 very fast and don't want to see you do it again. If you would've taken more time in the first place..... ;)

Have you given fair thought to simply moving/replacing the tank? You can build a new stand, order a new tank, get everything the way you want and then transfer the sand/water/corals over. There shouldn't even be a cycle with that.

A new 135 should be about on par (price wise) with what you plan on doing with the 2x20 and 1x10 and large sump.

EDIT: But, hey - it's your tank and your money.... Do whatever you think will make you happy....

Exactly. Which is why I asked here, and am thinking this out very thoroughly. Hopefully I make the best decision for my tank and myself..

I'm not sure. It is possible. I'd need cash though. I have an $85 gift certificate to a store where they have tanks, so that will take care of the 20s and the 10. Then the large sump is $68.82.

But see, my house, it was never meant for a large tank anyways. It takes up half of my basement, which was the most open spot, in tank real estate terms. If you can look, the beginning pages shows where it is. See how far out it is? That is best spot for it overall. Not very good IMO, nor my Mom's

I'm not happy with this setup, and my parents aren't either. My Mom dislikes it, and my Dad just wants me to stop

Now don't go that far! ;) That's talkin' like a madman...

I do agree that a tank in the middle of the room takes some work... if done wrong it just looks stupid. ;)

Dad just wants to look at the "pretty fish and coral things."

So yeah, you can see my setup, and it just looks stupid
Granted, we are looking at the "pretty fish and coral things," but why not look at them in little tanks that look nice in their surroudings as well? That's my idea basically.

Wait until you have a wife... ;)

I never said your tank looked stupid... Just that they can easily look bad when in the center of a room if the proper time isn't taken. ;)

I know the fun of keeping a tank that's viewable from all sides. That was a requirement from my wife when I bought the 125 - many years ago...

Anyway, good look with the "conversion"! Hope it turns out the way you want it to. But, please - be careful about the weight of those tanks on your "computer desk".

Note: I thought you originally said 20L as in liters... not long. So, my weight calcs were off. You're really looking at 500-550lb...

Dwain

I have a pic of the desk, hold on...

It used to have my 55g up top, along with that computer, everything on it...I'm not sure it could take all those tanks, but I'll ask Dad.

Sump would go in between, tanks would go on top...drains would go to the back, and then into the sump.

It's a nice desk, but it probably won't hold without some help. How would I go about reinforcing that? I've got a ton of 2x4's in the garage.

I think you should throw a shark in the 135g if you setup the smaller tanks as reefs.
Is this a joke? I wouldn't put a shark in a tank at all...if I had to, it would be a 5,000g with a 10ft high skimmer.
