Anyone use a T5 UV?

i have a 55 now and i'm upgrading soon to the 75. I am just rying to get all the equipment i need so i can set this one up right as opposed to in a hurry like my last one. I have an algea problem, but i feel thats more my phosphates and lack of a fuge on my current set-up. I do have one yellow tang and thought maybe it would help keep him healthy, control algea, and my water clearer. No real problem exactly, just have seen a lot of people like theirs. I don't have my heart set on one, just thought it might be good insurance. Do you not believe they are worth the $$.

Thanks for the help

Dude, the algae is exporting nutrients, thus cleaning your tank. If you want less algae you need to get a better skimmer, or maybe you need to develop better husbandry skills. You are mistakenly trying to get rid of an effect, where you should be addressing the cause. Scrutinize your setup, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out, UV is not the answer.

if you read my post i said i know what my algea problem is on my current tank. I siad lack of fuge hence no macro or anything to help aid in export. I do run an ASM G3 that i think is more than enough for a 55 with 3 fish and no corals. The uv was just an idea to help prevent future problems, and also to help with water clearity and parasites. I don't think you need to insult my husbandry skills without ever seing my tank. I never implied that getting a uv would stop the algea, just another tool to help prevent it. If you don't mind, just keep your opinon to yourself, i don't need help from rude people like yourself. I would never insult you in such a way.

I'd spend my money on something else. UV are of little benefit,IMO, aside from making the water clearer. You have to keep the sleeves clean, replace bulbs and they kill good stuff too. If you want purification I'd go with ozone. Much less maintainance.

yeh.. IMO UV sterilizers are good for certain applications. Breeding tanks, FO systems with packed livestock, some coral prop tanks, but not for everyday reefers. just a waste of money IMO for the most average of reefers, which most of us are.
