I found this product and wanted to purchase one but thought i'd get some feedback on it first but i also havent seen anyone mention it so here it is http://www.pythonproducts.com/aqprod.html

Its called the python and is an automatic siphon that hooks up to the kitchem sink to drain...no bucket or mouth suction needed (supposedly)! Anyone have or use it??

Also, the make a ball pump that you can attach to the standard WC vacuum we use so we dont have to suck the water out ourselves just squeeze the ball pump (look under the products tab and youll find it)

Input please...

I have it and use it but it doesn't fit any of my faucets. So I just suck on the end of the hose to get it started, drains into the bathtub or into a bucket outside. The valve is handy so you can stop it at just the right moment. LFS guys use a pool vac hose. Bigger diameter moves a lot of water fast. But buy one new, you don't want to stick a chlorine-impregnated hose into your tank. Buh-bye critters.

Hey Pedro, you know your supposed to remove one fitting from the faucet itself right? Then this piece from Python goes in it's place.

I use it and it's great!!! Unlike Pedro, mine does fit the faucet in my half bath near the tank and I just have it marked in the back of my tank as to where 15gals is and stop there with the handy ball valve. Then I just dis-connect it from the faucet and connect it over to my brute container with a Mag5 in it and connect it directly to the Mag. Turn on the Mag and fill'er up. Takes me all of about 20-30 minutes for the whole thing. Best of all no back pains and little mess.

I just put a maxijet in with a hose, where I want to draw water from, and reverse it when I want to put water in. No siphon, no problem: I drain to a bucket. A foot-operated on-off switch helps.

I especially like the chick from the 70's with the farah faucet hair cut. Speaking of the 70's, that thing looks like a water-bed filler.

Sorry, was that off topic?

i don't know, but something about the picture on their website is really funny to me....

That's a strange picture indeed..... lol...

back to faucets and want not. They used to include a plastic universal adaptor that worked fine on standard male threaded faucets with the strainer detached.

I purchased a new one 2 months ago? and they included some super heavy duty brass fitting that didn't fit. I ended up buying the adaptor separately......and now..I hardly ever use it.

I used to use it regularly when I had FW tanks, but for salt, it's always guess work between how much water you should syphon, and how much salt water you have ready to go. I've pumped out too much a few times, having to mix some more salt water on the fly. I guess I could've drawn lines on the tank and bin, but I never got around to it.

Otherwise, it's extremely efficient...I just don't enjoy the noise....it's pretty loud.

I use a gasoline syphon. ITs a thick hose that moves a good amount of water. I even use the syphon part to start the suction. No salty mouth for me.

Yes, Luis, I'm not a moron :lolspin:

The bathroom near the tank has a weird faucet, none of the adapters fit it. It doesn't matter, it just takes a few extra minutes to drain the tank.

I too put small marks on the tank to measure where to stop. To fill it, I take the 50g container I got from Ty to the LFS and fill it up with NSW. Then when I get home I stick a pump in the container with a hose to my tank. Plug it in and crack open a cold one.

I suppose I could mix my own in the container, but I like the natural stuff.

Yeah, the outfit is great, and the panty hose. That's how they did water changes in the '70s. And whoever installed that sink... it's really crooked. And that little tank in the middle of the room, so un-feng shui.

OK, I'm thinking about this WAY too much.

When I drain the tank, I always put the end of the drain hose into a 5 gallon bucket. That way if I miscalculate, I have a backup.

You should NEVER put freshly-mixed SW into your tank. You could kill everything in there.

As I recall, she was the February 1977 water change girl from the big-al's calendar.

Its funny, the main connector thing-a-ma-bob use to be marketed for waterbeds. I remember only being able to find them at Kmart in the bedding section back about 10 years ago. Now I see them everywhere in the fish stores.

I am the only old guy that remembers this product when it was introduced almost 15 years ago :D
It use to work very good especially with FW tanks running UG filters, You were able to vacuum the gravel really easy.

The water change outfit/uniform is also available for sale at Big Al's! The high heels are especially important tools in the event of a flood. And remember to smile when you too are doing water changes!
