Please don't be tempted by their appearance and prices, you will not be happy with these lights.
LOL Ok then what do you think I should get, since I have no Idea, I have a 72 Bowfront, and I want to do Corals and Bulbs tips.

I wish I could answer that for you. I bought these lights because they looked good and for the price, who could beat it. Right? :)

There are many "experts" on the forum that will be able to answer you much better than I could. You may want to go to the beginners forum and start your own thread. You will have a much better response there.

Good luck and welcome. This is a lot of fun!

thanks for steering me clear:D

I read there is an upgraded version of these lights? Apparently you get the bluewave ballasts??? Or did I read that wrong and the guy was bull shatting?? Anyone have experience with the 72 inch MH version? and what about the 48 inch HO 108W T5 setup. I have 4X54 T5 on my tank now and would like to add. Anyone have it?

I cannot believe this thread is still going strong. I looked about 11 months ago. and decided against it due to how cheap these things were and how unreliably they are.

I purchased the JEBO 4 X 55 watt unit several years ago. I have used them everyday with no problems.

Then last month I finished a DIY canopy with MH and 65W pc's We opted not to use the ballast from the Jebo unit as there was nothing wrong with it that a new set of bulbs will not cure. (meaning bulbs are OLD as the hills)

I have 2 of those and they worked very well but I now want to do sps so I needed mh lighting.

We are going to use the Jebo units later on another setup or maybe a refug for this tank system.

When I replace my bulbs I will never buy any pc bulb not made by coralife or JEBO/Oydessa as they are the only ones I can count on and I have bought several brands.

JMO

WOW mcox33! You are the first person I ever heard say they actually liked JEBO/Oydessa bulbs. I hate mine. Even the people that do actually buy from Aquatraders usually change the bulbs to a good one.

9 months of use with my lights and still going strong. I did replace my MH with a 150w bulb.(9 months on the orginal bulb) Only thing that went wrong was the popped capacitor that took me 5 minutes to replace.

Just proves the point of the low quality of the light.

What is the difference between Electronic ballasts and Magnetic ones. Why is one better than the other, and Why is the latter so bad?

If you are talking about HQI lamps the magnetic ballast drives them brighter. Pros, the lamps run brighter, the ballasts are nearly indistructable. Cons, More electricity, the ballast gets hotter, the lamp doesn't last quite as long

Electronic ballasts run cooler, use less electricity, lamps last a little longer. Cons, Lamp isn't as bright, is rare cases electrical interferance with other equipment, ballasts don't last as long and are more apt to fail.

I'm going down there this week and try to get them to open one up. How can you tell if the ballast is electric or magnetic? And if the ballast is rated for 175W?

Sorry, I'm a PC kind of until recently.

I read through this entire thread...thanks for all the feedback from everyone who posted.

I am very tempted by the 48" 2/175 DE 2x96 PC hood with moonlights, but I've decided to get a used MH system from a buddy and add my own actinic supplementation.

Anyone out there who has had the MH halide systems for a while and still very happy with them?

I have had them for 3 days now. It looks great. It doesnt get that hot. The ballast looks like a rackmount setup and everything was setup very well. I recommend it.

305 watt 36 inch

305 watt 36 inch

bought this light about 7 months ago,, everything is fine.. lol but based on the thread when i got it i took it apart to make sure nothing was loose. it comes in scrap cardboard/and ap lain box but who cares aslong as nothing broke.. i changed the light the other day to coral life actincs, and put in a 150 watt hqi instead of a 175. .runs great.. the only problem is when you first turn on the hylide the fans a little noisy untill they get up to speed after that its quite..
sorry for all those who got bad lights .but i am happy with mine.. so far
