Anyone with a Quiet One Pump

I have a question about the Quiet One pumps.

Mag drives rate their GPH at 0 feet, then they show a chart with how much gph is lost for every foot.

The Quiet One 4000 is rated at 1017 gph but states "with a max head of 10.2 feet.

Does this mean it delivers 1017 gph at 10 feet or does it go down like the Mag drive ?

Also what is the differance in the QO 4000 and the QO 4000HH.
The HH is rated a little lower but uses 70 more watts than the 4000.

The rating is at 0' of head. At 10.2 feet it probably only flows a trickle. I have a 72 bow like you and I have a QO 4000 in a sump under the tank and it flows plenty. I dont have it throttled back and it does not overpower my megaflow.

HH has lower output at zero, but is pressure rated so it can pump against greater back-pressure.

Max head height refers to the height at which the flow is reduced to zero. Typically flow rates are reported at zero, but pump curves (performance against head pressure) varies widely. You need to compare pumps at the same point (head pressure) along the curve for your application.

Beware that manufacturers vary in how optimistic they are in their pump curves.

I have a quiet one 4000 for my return. Flows through 1" spaflex all the way to outlets - great flow rate! My pump is submerged in the sump - complete silence!

Thanks alot friends. I currently run a Mag 7 and dont like the flow. I was hoping the QO 4000 would be better for my 72 gal. I figure I got about 10' of head considering I am also pumping through a Rainbow Lifeguard UV sterilizer. :)

I would think that both your current and proposed flow rates are pretty high for effective UV sterilization. Might want to put your UV on a separate CL in the sump with a small PH.

Koden, thanks for the link

The instructions for my unit say maximum 760 gph. I'm sure I'm a lot lower then that right now with the mag 7 and approx 10' of head.
