AOGs vs. Armageddon vs. Devil Armor?

In your opinion, which are most sought after/rare?

Armageddons, hands down. Does anyone even have a colony of these anymore? I'm sure if anyone does admit to it, they will be bombarded with PM's.:fun2:

I have Armageddons. They started as a 3 polyp frag which weren't very vibrant. They are fairly slow growers for me. Now 7 or 8 months later there are roughly a dozen polyps and they have colored up nicely. I keep meaning to take a pic.

They have not yet grown off the frag plug and until they do I am reluctant to mess with them. The polyp faces themselves are good sized being slightly smaller than a dime. They readily gobble mysis and brine shrimp and look real purty next to my Darth Mauls.

the reason i ask is because i got some AOGs at RAP that look more like armageddons or devil armor than armor of gods. they don't have the lines like AOGs have and the center design is closer to armageddon. here see for yourself:

It would be awful to know the number of devils armor that have been sold for armageddon prices.

as far as the original question....no contest.

I would put armageddons on the short list of polyops that I have failed to keep multiple times. I have gotten them to grow well before Have had a colony of 5 go to 40 for me, but all that did was fool me into thinking thinking I had it handled. the end result was the same

thanks, the third pic must be off then because mine(first pic) have the dark center like the DAs and the same design and not as distinctive lines as the AOG, the AOG has more distinctive lines, a red/lighter center and the design is not as bold.

id is so hard on these guys, they are all so close...

dave, I would say devils armor, or a very similar polyp. Both polyps can , in certain conditions morph a little towards the other

aogs dont typically have the prounounced definition of red/pink and black design in their faces. Its more just bright red/pink linear striations with a black line across.

When DA's look their best that definition is very prounounced, but conditions of course can change this

I cant find any pics of my DA's right now...internet connection sucks and photopbucket is not cooperating....., but heres some of my aog's

first i think yours look like armageddons more than mine because of the light skirts, but i have no idea how to adjust the color on my camera, so that would/could explain the dark skirts on mine "in the pic". Also the speckles on your are more indicative of armageddons. But the mouth or "oral disc" is hard to tell on yours.

The thing that throws me off most on all of these is the distinctive lines on the AOGs from the pic i posted from zoaid.com

now you're talking, those are what i expect AOGs to look like, i can see the lines on yours and yours don't have the pornounced black "face" as the DAs and Armageddons.

I'm still new to this whole zoa/paly thing and i know they say names are only important to rookies, well, i am a rookie and always will be. names are important to me. I enjoy telling my non-reefer friends, "Those are Devil Armors" or Candy apple reds? they get a kick out of all the funky names and i sound like i know what i'm talking about when i really don't...

I dont mind the names. They are a tool andif youa re a collector, its much easier to say some ridiculous trendy name than a half paragraph to describe the most striking of the polyps, and amongst reputable sellers/traders, a pic is often not even necessary. Just some silly name and the conversation is clear no pic required

ok, while we're on names, in your pic, from the top right going straight down, do you know the names?

basically starting with the top right colony, below that look like tubbs?, then below that the green centers? and then the ones below that look blue, a bit mottled. thanks, dave

actually, now that it has acclimated a bit more to my tank after a couple days, i am thinking more towards AOGs, the lines are showing up more and the middle design is less pronounced. i will take pics again soon as my new diamond goby is done cleaning up...

They dont look different enough for any of them to be more sought after to me, although the armagedons do seem to be harder to find (and more likely to be substituted with AOG or DA at a jacked up price to make a sale)

I understand a couple years ago there was a bit of a craze for these guys, but they dont seem to be very sought after anymore. In many areas they are very common. They already went through their phaze.
