Apex bus cable length

I'm thinking about buying a Neptune apex controller. I see that I can add a pm1 module and an additional 4 port energy bar to control my other tank. The longest bus cable I see is 15 feet. I would need 30. The manual says don't use a standard usb cable it will damage unit.
Does anyone know the distance limits of these systems. What if I spliced my own wires into center of cable making it longer.
Or is there a better way, if you can hook up 240 modules you would think you could go farther than 15 feet.

I bought a 40ft cable online from a website that was posted in either the user manual or somewhere on the Neptune sponsor forum

I just read in the manual total bus length should be less than 200 feet. I guess its just a matter of finding the cable

thor makes sure your read the user guide there is a warning for using the wrong type of cable, not all aqua bus cables are the same.

This cable is intended for use with the apex. The problem with most standard usb cables is after a certin length they add a device to boost the signal. If you can find a A connector to A connector with out the booster device then that will work as well.

Thanks a lot, that is exactly what I need. They are not cheap I guess because someone wrote "for fish" on the package.
