Apex Controller Life Span to Replacement

I had the same backup solution, I had a nasty surprise when I had to use it. When you plug in the replacement master unit all the modules will take different addresses and the programing will not work, you have to reprogram quickly to get it all backup and running, just an FYI

This is why you have to go into replacement mode on the new base unit before you connect any of the modules or EB8's. You only connect the display and you use an AC Adapter to power the base unit since you won't have any EB8's connected. The modules themselves keep a record of the base unit serial number and their previous addresses. If your base unit is not in replacement mode when you connect the rest of the aquabus modules, they will all assume new addresses as you noted.

I have tested replacement mode and it works perfectly between my two units and it works perfectly. That said, my base unit was shipped to me years back and long before Replacement Mode was enabled. My spare is a clone of my other base unit and bares the same internal serial number so swaps for me are a bit easier for me.

Did I miss it? Where the documentation on replacement mode?

At this point, there isn't any official documentation on replacement mode that I have seen. It's a process that Neptune Support will walk you though and or provide the instructions for. I think they do it that way so that people don't screw their chances of restoring their Apex to a new base unit and having support on the phone when doing so reduces the chances of screwing it up.
