Apex issues

when I have a power failure my apex defaults the date and time back to dec 2007. Has anyone ever seen this issue?

I was told my internal battery is dead but it's soldered in so i would been to send the unit back to them for replacement. What a poor design. Well guess thats how they make there money.

Did you ask if they could send you one before hand so you can just swap them out?

That way your tank is not left running without a controller

they will not send a battery since the consider it "not user replaceable". I didn't ask if they would send a full controller.

How old is the unit? Did they say how long the battery should last?

They should add a feature to detect the internal battery life so we can plan ahead.

I purchased the unit used so im not too sure. but if it's using a standard computer battery then a few years will be the limit. They do have a feature for it to look externally for the date and time and setup automatically. This does however cause a delay since you must allow the modem to reboot.

I would think the internal battery would last longer. It's not used while the system is running which is 24/7. Sounds like they are using cheap batteries. PC batteries usually last 10 years or more. Hopefully Neptune will rethink saving a few cents for a better battery.
Other than this issue the Apex system is awesome! Love that you can write your own code and backup... and Fusion is icing on the cake.

The things I've done with this is amazing and I can't imagine running without out. Their answer was just mail it back to us and we'll replace the battery. Yea cause that would be so easy. The entire system including my ATO runs off of it. Let me just shut everything down for 2 weeks while you replaced a $2 battery. For $500+ I guess I would expect better from them. I'm rewritting some code to compensate for this issue. If I can work out a few bugs it will be business as usual and I leave it as is for now.

I hear ya!

How hard would it be to replace the battery?? I've replaced many on PC motherboards years ago when they were soldered to the board. If out of warranty I would look inside and check it out, don't forget to take pics. I have a needle soldering iron if you need.

I'm sure it wouldn't be hard. I'm a service engineer by trade. I was told by APEX if I open it i would void all warranty's but I have to check if its still covered anyway.

Do you loose all your programming as well? Theoretically it's a fancy alarm clock, if all you are loosing is the time and date but not all your programming that doesn't sound quite right. Unless there are multiple batteries
