I purchased the Apex lite, I havent gotten it yet but it should be here on thrusday.
I was wondering if i can use ANY 802.11 wireless adapter?
for example this one http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0273968

I already have wireless internet with a netgear router. But the tank and the router are far away from eachother and i do not want to run a cable all the way across my house to plug it into the apex controller. Do you think that the wireless adapter that i posted above will work?

You cannot use a USB wireless adapter. The ports on the Apex that look like USB are not actually USB, but a proprietary variation thereof which uses a higher voltage.

You need a wireless adapter of a type commonly called a wireless gaming adapter, which has a wired network (Ethernet port).

A few suitable models:

NetGear WNCE2001
TrendNet TEV-467GA
Linksys/Cisco WGA600N
Linksys/Cisco WET610N

I was just thinking about something. I stated above that i didnt want to run a ethernet cable all the way across the room well i was talking about from my wireless router to the apex.

Can't I just plug the ethernet cable into my laptop and the apex unit its self?

Yes, you can plug a ethernet cable from your laptop to the Apex unit. Keep in mind that the wireless option definitely has its benefits though..

If you try to run the Apex off your laptop (which can be done and there's configuration instructions in the User Guide) you are essentially making a mini-network that consists of your laptop and the Apex. Period. Hard stop. No internet access. No email.

Probably not what you had in mind. Typically used by people with only wireless access for the Apex that have to apply firmware updates which can't be done wirelessly.
