apex or reef keeper

I've not used Reef Keeper. But I love my Apex. The iphone app is awesome and has brought some peace of mind when I go on vacation. I still have someone come over to check.

I have a reefkeeper 2. If I had to purchase something new, it would definitely not be a reefkeeper. I've had many problems with it. It is working fine now, but I don't fully trust it for anything more than a glorifed timer. I'd go with the Apex.

I have a reef Keeper2 as well. Had to send it in twice for repairs. When choosing a controler, To me the most important thing to investigate would be the service after the sale. Lets face it, you buy one to controll the tank, when something goes wrong, and it will eventualy, you want a company you can rely on to turn it around quick. The service needs to be seamless. I cant say that I ever felt that way both times I sent mine in for service. However, it does work, but I do not trust

Make you a great deal on one :)

RK 2 Those are ancient If your going to compare at least use the RKE as a comparison. As i own a RKE and a RKL L3 they are fine controllers but the Apex I'm told has some easy to use features that the RKE does not have. Then RKE has some things that Apex does not have IE Salinity probe PC4's verse DC8's and you can go on and on....

The build quality of the Apex is way better than previous versions of ACs. I am thrilled about the capabilities and potential of my Apex. That being said, I am currently using the original software rev of the first round of controllers released for sale and have many bugs that are being reworked in beta. I have been hesitant to update because my basic program is running and I know the limitations. I'm worried that if I update to the beta, I will run into a new set of issues that I will need to work around.

My 2 cents is that build quality and funtionality are good. It needed much more software development before being released but if or when that is worked out it will be a great unit. I would get the Apex again but would suggest to get fully familiar with the software on the current rev ahead of time for your own piece of mind. Check out the Neptune Systems forum on RC if you haven't already.

Jiriki - what rev of the software/firmware are you using? Does your programming get wiped out when you update?

I think this is the version I have based on the XML output I see:

apex AC4:01371

My programming did not get wiped out when I upgraded. I last upgraded in January I think but the code had been out for a while. I would do the upgrade. I think there were some key bugs. One of the biggest bugs in the original code was the season table was way way off. But that's only if you use that table which I don't. It's a pretty painless upgrade. I recommend it for sure.

unbreakable: where did you get the pm2 module? I last looked a few weeks ago and couldn't find a vendor to sell it. I will need one to monitor a second fish tank soon.

I've been reading up on this too, it seems like the reefkeepers tend to have a lot of quirky bugs/issues. I've even heard they claim some of these issues as features.

I haven't owned any of them, but after doing a decent amount of reading it seems like the Apex are a little more reliable.

No experience with RK but the cust service with the Apex is very good. Things are being consatntly updated with both but from what I have read the Apex is well ahead of the curve. I haven't had any issues with my Apex. The only thing I would improve is the manual/instuctions. That said though, a RC member has put one together that any dummy (me) can understand.

I ordered mine directly from neptune. It was a pre-order and received it earlier this month. Its been doing great on beta. I am still getting used to the apex but am impressed by it. You can click on my name and check out the graphs for conductivity in the home page link to get an idea of how its been reading. Russ added the lines to the graphs to show the high, average, and low.

weird i just realized this was a local forum--- lol. sorry, i was using my android application to view the forum and this was on top of the list when i clicked "latest" for the threads.

I'm sure the input is appreciated regardless of local or not.

What android app are you referring to? I've just been using my Droid's browser.

Also, I can't wait until someone converts the iphone app to android...

go to the android market and search for tapatalk, you have to pay for the full version in order to post, but not sure if they've implemented that already. im using the motorola android by verizo

if you mean for the apex, kenargo has software that you can use on the droid to control your aquarium http://www.kenargo.com/software/index.php

it would be better to have a real application, but im not sure if there are any programmers who would want to take the time to make one. i would pay for it though

All information is welcome and I thank you all I already have a old Neptune 2 so I know the program so I think I will stay with Neptune. Now to save more money lol
