Apex Timing Out Saving Changes

I have a pretty big Apex system. I am running 12 modules with 72 active outlets and 32 profiles. When I change the program on an outlet and save, the web page times out. If I wait about a minute and log back into the Apex, the change is always reflected in the code. This is a very difficult way to work if I have to make more than one or two changes.

Am I bumping up against a performance limitation?

I am constantly having this issue with my larger Apex set ups.(in my home and at a friends) Any particular tips you got from Curt you could share or should I just call him up to?
