API Cooper Test Kit

Hi, I just treated my QT with Cupramine. I "believe" I put the recommended dosage based on the instructions.

However, I tested it with the API Cooper Test Kit and it seems to between the 0.25 and 0.50 test range.

The QT is a 20 gallon long tank. Its not filled all the way to the top, but almost there. I added Cupramine based on a calculation of how many gallons are in the tank from the basice formula (LxWxD)/231. This gives me approximately 16 gallons of water. Based on the math of 16 drops per 10.5 gallon; this gives you approximately 0.65 drop per gallon. Obviously I can't put in 0.65 drop, so I divided my 16 gallons by 0.65 and this came out to be approximately 23.98 or 24 drops. I added this amount two days ago and then today added another 24 drops.

My question after all that is; should i keep adding drops to the QT until the color of the test kit match that of the API Test Card. It is pretty close, but dont know what I should do.

How important is it to be at 0.5 or can I go a little over? It seems the dosage is correct.

Has anyone used the API Cooper Test Kit? If so, is the reading exact?

Thanks.

The API copper test is still baffling to me. I never know what exactly the reading is. I wish there was a clear cut easier test out there but no one seems to know? If someone does...please tell us!

The api test kit does not work with cupramine.I also learned this the hard way.Their is no good copper test kit however the three that do work are seachems, saliferts and red sea.The seachem is the best and i say that with great sarcasm as their is no best just the better of what we have to work with. The problem i have with the seachem is telling the diffrence between the colors is near impossible. However this is the first one i would buy.The next on the list is salifert. The salifert is decent however it has a limted range that it detects so you end up doing math equations to figure out what level you are at and as i said it is lmited. The red sea i have not used but have been told it works.I can not comment on how well it works.I hope this helps a little..i just wish their was an accurate easy to read copper test kit for us but as of yet i would give the test kit people about a d+-Kieth

I also found out the hard way using a API test kit I use the seachem kit and it is okay still hard to read. You need a test kit that test for organic copper, imo seachem should do a better job on the box as far as stating what kind of test kit is needed to have a proper reading
