API vs Salifert Nitrate- Check it out O Agios

So in reviewing Gasman's awesome thread on De nitrators i started freaking out when O Agios kept reminding us that API was not as accurate as Salifert for Nitrates. (Although Gasman has continued to say that he has used 3 different kits with same results)

So i ordered a Salifert Nitrate kit. It came in today.

I will agree that the API reads O and the Salifert reads 0.2, but when it comes to Nitrates, is this significant?

BTW- I needed a dark background in front of the white result cards, so i used a bottle of dark wine. Thats a good Australian Barossa Grenache. :smokin:

Yes time tables for both followed one is 5 minutes the other 3.

I will admit, this tank is only 4 months old, BUT it gets a lot of feedings, lots of SPS ans LPS; but none stop husbandry. I enjoy it.

Salutations,
Eddie

Eddie, the difference between both test will only be significant if you are trying to monitor low range nitrates, otherwise it doesn't really matter.
Most new tanks start showing measurable/significant nitrate accumulation after approx 6 to 8 months, ideally you want to start controlling them at this stage since it is much easier, less costly and you will skip the adverse effects of having 160PPM's of nitrates (see Gasman)
