apistasia

I've had several little apistasia anemones on on erock for a while. I have been trying to get them with a needle for a while but it retracts too quickly.
I recently pulled the rock out and took a hammer lightly knocking a tiny piece off and Ithought I got the ap. then.
No luck.
Can I take the rock out and dip it in something that will kill the apstasia? Even boil it?
I'm starting to get a little concerned about a spread.

There are lots of ways to get rid of aiptasia when you find it. If you inject it, use any number of things...I use very hot fresh water and if I get to inject it, that works. If you have a problem "catching" it to inject, try putting some mysis shrimp or other food on it and wait a moment for it to start ingesting it so that it can't retract into it's hole quickly and you can get the needle into it. Some people report consistently good results with using Joe's Juice on them to kill them. I've had mixed results with that and I find that about half the time, they just reappear in about three or four day's time.

If you can get the rock out of the tank, then you can use a turkey baster filled with very hot fresh water right onto the spot where the aiptasia is lodged. Do that a few times and it'll almost certainly kill the aiptaisia.

All i did was take the rock out, but watch where they disapear to and scrape them out with a terminal screwdriver, then rinse with SW. You will know when you get it out, it looks like snot...

Ive had 100% succes rate up to now.

thanks for the info guys i was wondering the same thing to. A friend of mine said lemon juice to inject them with works well.

Apistasia, I have used all of the above. Joe's Juice, hit or miss. Two part epoxy, seems to most of the time the apistasia finds it's way through the holes in the rock and pop up close to where it was. I read a post here some time ago about a syringe and a drop or two of Tabasco! Questioned it but though why not try it? I did and that is the best thing that has worked for me ever.

pepermint shrimp work wonders they wiped my apistasia right out no longer have any they really get into the cracks where they are and pick them out havn't had any since

I second and highly recommend the peppermint shimp route ... I bought two peppermint shrimp and the aptasia was gone overnight! At first I did the injection with lemon route which worked for a week or two but then more aptasia would appear. Good luck!

Has anyone found that after all the aiptasia is gone, the Peppermint Shrimp eat any coral, like zoanthids, for example?

I have squirted them with kalk juice before and had some success.
Maybe thats Joe's Juice.

Please explain for me this "Joe's Juice"
Thx

I have used kalk paste and have a 100% success rate. Just use kalk powder and mix with water to a thick consistency and then use a syringe and cover the entire aiptasia or the hole that he sucked back into.

Joe's Juice is a product that available specifically for killing aiptasia. You can easily find it online. It's a white chalky liquid that you slowly put onto the aiptasia with a dispenser that comes with it. I know that a lot of people really like it...I'm just not sold on it after having used it many times.

I took the rock out and dipped it in tap water (not the best for the copeopods).
I boiled some water and then put a lot of the water down the hole the ap. had been disappearing into.
So after 3 days no signs of the ap (knock on wood!).

Thanks for the input.

Lemon juice and a 3mm syringe works good get from drug store for .30 cents hard to get some in nooks and cranies and as stated and will only keep them at bay for a while but pepermint shrimp will clean the tank almost instantlly, but also as stated they will be hungry and looking for food once the aptasia is gone I have found to keep them from picking your corals you can simply feed them some pellets or remove them from the tank untill needed again.
