Appropriate Tunze for a 75 gallon?

Hello:

I was wondering which of the Tunze powerheads would be appropriate for a 75 gallon tank. I have a crushed coral substrate with some sand sized particles 50/50 mix.

Have clams, softies and some LPS. Not into SPS right now, but maybe in the future.

Any suggestions on what would be "perfect" would be appreciated.

I may upgrade to a 150 gallon in the near future.

Thanks!

For a 75 with softies and LPS my preference would be a 7300/2 or 7400/2 assuming you have a sump with return flow of at least 400gph.

Sorry for the newbie question, but why would having a sump matter?

I have a 40 gallon long sump with a Mag7 return pump for the 75 gallon tank.

My circulation right now consists of two medium & large sized powersweep powerheads (yes, they do stick and stop sweeping).

I also have an Aquaclear 500 that is holding carbon and a sponge.

If I got the 7400/2, would I be able to get rid of all three of these current components?

Thanks Roger!

The only reason the sump matters is so you will have flow on the side opposite of the powerhead. Just to break the flow up a bit it is good to have one other flow source. With a 7400/2 and the single controller to make it pulse you would be able to get rid of your three other sources of flow. The 7400/2 will produce 1050gph from a 1" nozzle and the pulsing creates even more turbulence as 300gph water will collide with the 1050gph and basically create waves.

Hi Roger:

I'm back and I need a little advice. I ended up buying the 6000 with a controller.

I was wondering where you would suggest I install this thing? I have mostly softies with some LPS and I'm starting on SPS. I also have 5 clams on the substrate on the right side of the tank as well.

Here is the picture of the left side of my tank

Here is a pic of the right side:

I originally planned to put it on the right side, directly in the middle of the side of the glass and having it blow across the entire tank. However, my hammer sits there and the 6000 pretty much obscures anything behind it as it is HUGE in comparison to the coral. :eek1:

I do have the option of moving it, but prefer not to. I can move the overflow box a couple inches to the left. However, if I stick the 6000 in the corner between the overflow and the glass, I will not have much room to angle the 6000.

Any suggestions on placement would be MOST appreciated!

I would place it in the corner opposite the overflow box and then just raise the height of the rock pile in front of it to obscure the pump, Hve the pump blow diagnally acroos the aquarium.

If it blows towards the overflow, would this not force the food straight into the overflow? Or is this where the food/timer button comes into play? ;)

Where would I position the return tube positioned then? It is a bit left of center now and sitting next to an AquaClear 500.

Thanks!

It would blow across to the front corner so the overflow shouldn't be an issue but this would be a good use of the foodtimer when feeding. I might put the return tube next to the overflow or on the other side of the Stream further into the corner.
