April Meeting

Electroplating... like cheap jewelry in the 70s?

I'd be interested in hearing about that or anything else for that matter!

I'm up for that conversation topic - interesting to know what materials would be a good match to use without corroding - maybe plastic insulated wire up to the frag, then coating around the coral skeliton and wire "connection" with superglue.

When lighting strikes my house and you hear strange laughing coming from inside, you'll know the frags are ready.

but seriously, I'd like to hear any thoughts on it - I'll see if I can dig up some more research on the topic.

FRANK-N-FRAGS!!! IT COULD WORK!!!!

I'll print up a little list of resource links I have on it, and brush up on the topic. actually they say it does work, and makes acros grow at least twice as fast . It's even Patented...

can we squeeze this one into the meeting for discussion TBOR??

Ken, I have a 190amp DC inverter TIG welder that would really give them a JOLT, I could bring it to the meeting and we could ZAP a few frags and see it they grow :)

I kinda figured you had a welder, but Jim, i think that would be just a little over kill. something a wee bit genlter is what seems to work. more like a mere electric charge, and we are not talking 60 foot tall van der graff generators here. I'm still reading to find some stats for the meeting. Nick might have some info too.

Ken, I got 220v 110v, phase converters, dc welders, ac welders, plasma cutters, rectifiers, car batteries, charge packs, 6v chargers, 12v chargers, alkaline batteries, Choo Choo train rheostats, capacitors, rectifiers, square wave, sine wave, inverters you say the word and I will bring the juice--- BUZZAP :)

GEBC, you are the home depot of spare parts and power control systems. I'm pretty sure you will have something that will work. but there is not much to show as a demo. pretty simple realy. but like Nick wondered, what are the best materials to use. I think a quick "how to" in principle discussion will root out some ideas. I'm thinking a small solar cell. or inverter DC power supply. but i like solar cell better. keeps line current out of the picture. for when i dunk my hands in the tank. another degree of safety.

Hmmm? do AC/DC inverters produce a steady DC current or does it cycle off/on 60 times a second? stuttering corals?

Ken, A true DC inverter has caps in it to prevent the pulse, not sure if you can simply rectify Ac and come out with true uninterrupted Dc. I'm just pulling your chain about the demo.

I know, but its just funny to consider the consequences. smokin, stuttering, dancing corals. and who knows what it might do to the pods? how long can they dance on a hot tin roof?

chain sucessfully pulled.

Ken - That would be a great presentation/discussion for tonight. Sorry, I've been away for a few days climbing in the hills of WVa, and haven't been paying any attention to threads and whatnot... I also sent out the meeting reminder email this morning and said there would not be a formal presentation. Woops, :p oh well, everyone will be pleasantly surprised! Thanks, Ken.

I think I have jumper cables. I'll have to stop by the gas station and see if they will let me take a set from the pump.

>:P~~~~~~~~~~

No jumpers needed. its just a short info only talk to present a novel method being used to build or restore reefs in the south pacific. i just have a few web site links that take you to lots of articles and picture archives on the process. I can't print any color pics, since my color ink cartridge is dry. but i can print the links in B/W for the handout. Like i said earlier. i wonder if it could be applied to tanks without danger of getting zapped.

If you forward me the links, I can print out some nice color photos here at work if you would like

pages printed - some simple stuff - 10 copies of each (if there's more people we can share - don't wanna waste any trees ;) )

really neat stuff - hopefully we can reap some of the rewards - anything to lessen the amount of harvesting from the reefs :)

bloop - we'll set you up with a 9V to get started, and let you work your way up to the 12V car battery :)

I won't be able to make it to the meeting tonight. I'll be sure to make the next one and Mary I'll let you know in the next few weeks on whether or not I can present in May. I need a few more RBTAs and BTAs to call me tank an anemone tank (currently have 1) Hope everyone has a good time.

-Chris
