Jacob, another interesting fact about the stuff you are reading in that old magazine I gave you is that Robert Straughn (my mentor)
was the first one to discover that live rock helps with water quality. He really diden't know why and surprisingly never thought of the role bacteria or how they figured into things.
He loved UG filters and used them in all of his tanks but he thought the benefit was just to filter particles out of the water, then he would wash the gravel.
The term "Live Rock" was not used then. Mr. Straughn refered to the rock as "Anemone Rock".
Lee Chin Eng also used "Anemone Rocks" but he also did not know why it helped with water quality. He kind of cheated though, living on the sea in Indonesia he had unlimited access to water, sunlight and rocks which he could replace just by leaning over the back of his tank and picking up another rock from the sea.
