Aptasia and the single clam

My very cool, electric blue maxima is being overrun with aptasia on the shell. I've heard Joe's Juice or Kalwasser will kill the clam. Any suggestions?

be careful mnot to get the stuff in the mantle area. i did it for 2 small maximas with very small aiptasias. made a thick kalkvasser solution and rubbed it on the nems. GONE! no return in a month, so, hoping. good luck

My mail order maxima came with aptasia on the shell. I took a (new) soft bristled toothbrush and gave the shell a good scrubdown. I let the clam sit in a bowl of saltwater for a while to see if I missed any of the little buggers. Gave it another scrub, rinsed it well in salt water and put it in the tank.

Never saw another aptasia.

If your tank have aptasia, my condolence to you. When I have aptsia, I can oly take the tank down and start over. After that said, I would not worry about it unless it is really near the mantel of the clam. Aptasia can sting the clam and especially can start growing right inside edge of the shell of the clam and give it lots of problem.
For me anything with aptasia will not go into my tank unless I can nuke the aptasia. If I see any aptasia on anything, the aptasia is dead, even if I have to tear the rock structure down to get to a tiny one.

You can always get a group of peppermint shrimp. My tank had a ton of aiptasia until I got my pair of peppermints. Now there isn't a single aiptasia in the tank.

^^ peppermints are hit and miss, some have great success, I got a trio of them and they don't touch them. Even the babies

It is still a lot easier to get peppermints and see if they are interested in aips than to tear down the tank or nuke all of the aips with kalk paste.
