Aqua C EV180 mods?

I have a Aqua C EV 180 w/ a mag 7 currently. The mag doesn't seem to be pushing this skimmer like I have seen or heard of other EV's. Interested on people's opinions on which pump to upgrade to-mag 9.5, mag 12, eheim, etc... also can the 1" injector mod be done to this model. Please help, I really need to get this skimmer pumpin harder.

best performance i got out of mine was with an Iwaki 40RT pressure pump. the Mag 9 is a big improvement over the 7, if you went with a 12 you'll need to use a gate valve for throttling.

Just like with all the larger Mag pumps, add a chiller to counter the heat addition

I also feel like my ev-180 isnt getting enough skimmate. I dont see a lot of fine bubbles in the reactor. I'm running a eheim 1252 but it's split between a phosban reactor.

I have this same skimmer and just bought a mag 9 for it. It does seem like there is never any bubbles but there is always skimmate. /shrug

I run mine wide open with the Eheim 1262 and I think that's more then enough. I have to cut back on the air just so it doesn't flood.

plugpitch: I wouldn't run anything else off of the skimmer pump.

i used a 1262 on my ev180 and i had to cut my air back to less than 50% to keep it from flooding and i had the outlet gate valve removed completely

The 1" injector will fit on the EV180. It helps a little.

You'll get the biggest boost by upgrading your pump (Eheim 1262 rocks!). The Mag 7 is a big joke on this skimmer. You have to run it with the air valve fully opened otherwise you're not getting anything. The possibilities are endless with a stronger pump. It's more forgiving too.

i run my ev 180 with the mag 9 at ~ 90% open with no problems. I have to empty skimmate every 2 or 3 days. I think a lot of it is the positioning of the skimmer to your water levels.

if i was starting over i would probably go with the eheim 1262 and throttle back. i have one for my return pump and it is more quite and puts out less heat than the mag pumps.
