i have decided to get an aqua c remora for my 65 gal reef tank.

this will be an added skimmer to my "built in" skimmer thats in my wet/dry filter.

which pump is the best to choose?

do i need to get the drain fitting?

thanks so much!

also the mag 3 comes with the aqua c pro skimmer, for tanks over 75 gallons...
my tank is 65 gallons, should i get the more powerful skimmer?

would it be overkill?

:eek1:

I don't think you can really over skim. I put the same skimmer with the mag 3 on my fathers 55 gallon and it does a great job!

We got the filter box. It helps to keep bubbles out of your tank. I didn't get the option to get a drain fitting. It would probably make it easier to drian some of the water before removing it from the tank for cleaning!

Even the Remora Pro will be undersized for a 65. I just sold my Remora because it couldn't even handle my 18g....I now have a Deltec MCE600. IMO the filter box helps immensly if you don't mind the size, but again the Remora is a meger skimmer at best

Not true.................... and your opinion only.

That's all we have here at RC my friend is opinions, very few facts. In fact, you just posted your opinion.

The drain fitting on the collection cup is to allow you to run a hose into a larger collection container (gallon jug) to prevent the collection cup from overflowing if you leave town for several days or if you added something like water conditioners to the water causing the skimmer to go wild which would cause it to rapidly fill possibly over flowing. I find it more tedious to empty the collection cup with the hose hanging down into a jug behind the tank. I used a piece of a baggie and rubber band to plug mine. I find it much easier to empty the cup every day or two. It can be connected when I leave town. In my opinion it is worth it, but not for every day use.

thanks for all your help and opinions:mixed:

i ordered the pro today (the larger model) with the drain and box.

i went with the bigger model just in case the smaller one was not enough.

I have to say the Remora Pro is a decent skimmer. Lots of opinions on this but the one I had worked very well.

No, it is true in many cases. THe remoras are all hand cut and hand built. SOME of them can't even handle a 10 gallon tank, and some of them work great. THeres a ton of variability in these, and it SERIOUSLY affects performance.

IMO, theyre not worth buying, there are MUCH MUCH better skimmers in the sub$200 range.

The hand built thing may be true. Myself I dont really know. All I can comment on is the fact that the one one I had worked Great. I would go on to say that the one I have will a 65 with no problem. Are there better skimmers out there ?? certainly I own one. An ASM G3. If the hand built thing is in fact true,I am not saying its not I just dont know. Then he can certainly get a great skimmer for the price of a PRO. That is what this forum is for to share everyones experiances with differant equip. My experiance with My remora was fine hence my favorable response to his question. he als stated that he had (decided) to go with the Remora. All said I wish him the best. Rock On

i have the remora pro on my 90 gallon. it produces very well for me, i keep the cup very high so i get a very dry skimmate. i also got one with the mag 3 pump, but i was not satisfied with its production. i upgraded to the mag 5 and i saw drastic changes in how much crap was pulled from the water. you may also chose to do the same...
