Aqua C skimmer

WayTooDeep:

"about 3 oz in 4days" That's about average, I won't be too disppointed about that.

I did not know you have the EV180. I think Razzagas's is the Remora. If you don't have room, have a look at the new Coralife Needle-Wheel Super Skimmer , much finer bubble and more skimmate.

Cool ,Ie been hearing about that skimmer ,one of our members did a mod on one of them ,IT kick butt from what i see ,
So 3 or 4 oz in four days is good ?

Good only as an Injection type skimmer goes. But venturi and Injection type skimmers can't compete with needle-wheel ones yet. Best is the recirculating needle-wheel.

well ,then i think i have to sell this $$ good for Nada skimmer then ,I really am not happy with its skimming ,for the money spent i would think that it does better the the coral life super skimmer
what is the aqau c good for then if it only skims out that little skimmate in 3 days or so ?
also thx for helping out ,I enjoy hear and learning new things all the time

How could you have the unit for 6 months and not realize something is wrong? I have the HOB too and it works great...yours must be defective. In fact, I also use it on my 55 gallon with a 29 gallon fuge....works great.

Just my 2 cent

not to take over the thread, but i also have the EV180 and just can't get very much skimmate. called the company and she said there is nothing that could wear out on that skimmer, just the pump. i can clean everything and it makes no difference.

First, make sure the injector nozzle is clean. A small snail will hurt performance. On the Remora/Urchins use open the small threaded port and use the included brush.

A larger pump also helps. I use a Mag 9.5 for the EV-180. For a Remora or an Urchin a Mag3 is a good size (something in the 320-350 GPH range with ~6' cutoff). Basically one size larger than the docs call for.

Make sure air can exit the skimmer. On the Remora/Urchin make sure the hole in the lid is not blocked. On the EV series, make sure that the drain line drains so that airflow is not blocked. (Or drill a hole in the lid.)

(On the 180 you also need to raise the water level until you get good production. Forget the 1-2 inches above the internal platform thing)
