aqua c upgrade

I am currently using the seaclone150 on my 55 gallon reef and was going to buy an aqua c remora HOB skimmer to upgrade. I was wondering which one to get: The remora(w/ maxijet 1200), remora pro (w/ rio), or the remora pro (mag drive).

Also where is the cheapest place to buy one of these?

Is there a better skimmer for this price range?

are you gonna buy new or is money an issue? The regular ones are about 160 new online (plus shipping). But i dont know how much the others are. But i had the regular remora (w/maxijet) on my 55 and it worked great. If you can afford the remora pros tho, i dont see why not just get those. Then you can upgrade tank size w/same skimmer later one, you know?

If you get the Pro, go with the Mag drive, the Rio is noisy. If I were you, I'd go with the Pro since the regular one is only rated for 75 gallons. I like to have a skimmer rated for twice my tank's capacity.

I have a CSS 125 on my 65 and it works great for me. I think I paid $140 for it on marineandreef.com

The CSS's (Coralife Super Skimmer) are really starting to get quite the buzz going. They'd be a good one to check out too.

Definitely go w/ the Mag. Rio's are prone to failure. I had one on the first skimmer I ever bought (Excalibur). It was hard to get it started after the power went out or after cleanings. Then, after approx. 5 months it stopped working altogether. That was my first and last Rio. There was a thread floating around here where everyone was posting about their problems w/ Rio's. It was a VERY long thread.

I agree. Go mag. Go pro.
One alternative: get a hob downflow and create a sump. That opens up a raft more of skimmers you could get, including the Aqua C EV 120, which is multiple times more potent than, say, the Urchin or basic Remora; or any other brand you like.

Remora Pro with Mag Drive for sure. I had one on my 55gal and it perform flawlessly. I originally had the RIO pump on it, but constantly had restart problems. When I upgraded to the Mag pump, it was a day and night difference.
