Aqua Medic Ecodrift 4.0

Hey just wanted to share my unboxing of a new wave pump. I have had it with Jaebo wave pumps. I have three packed away in their boxes with their controllers and power supplies, all failed within 6 months to a year.
I'm hoping the ecodrift pump will be a worthy ,cost conscious purchase.

Here's a few pics...

I cant wait to get it in the tank tomorrow. I'll update when I do.

Lol @ rebranded jeabos.

These are German made pumps, completely different motor, prop, controller etc etc than jeabos.
Aquamedic has been making quality products in the hobby for decades.
completely different than some mass produced crap coming out of China. (cough cough jeabo)

Jebao old wp series controller + connection:

The only thing that looks different from the WP series is the front cover. I could be wrong but can you blame me for mistaking the two?

they are a redesign of their ocean prop pumps that came out in 2009, way before anyone in the reefing hobby even heard of jeabo.

Why in the world would Aqua Medic come out with a NEW pump that they designed and then make the controller look EXACTLY like the Jebao controller?
That would be the stupidest thing they could do. I think it's made by Jebao! Show me a 'Made in Germany' on the pump or even the box.

They do share the same controller but the pumps are entirely different.

"Wrangling all of this flow in is a multi-function and multi-speed pump controller, which is actually the exact same controller found on the Jebao WP model pumps. Aqua Medic admits that the pumps themselves are also quite similar to the Jebao pumps, but explain the key differences are that the EcoDrift pumps made with better materials, which include ceramic shafts, rubber mounts instead to reduce noise and vibration, and a few internal parts (kept a secret) that make this pump nearly silent. Aqua Medic also noes that the EcoDrift pumps are approximately 20% stronger than the Jebao models."

How do you define the word entirely? The above description is as close to admitting they are selling a rebranded as it can be. They just changed a couple parts and they can say it's better. That's the way OEM companies work. It's kind of like arguing that a Lexus is not a Toyota.

I see on the back of the pump the word Germany. Not made in Germany. As in AquaMedic is a German company.

LOL, Good point. I never even saw that he was showing off the word Germany (looking from my phone). Even if it's only on the magnet holder.

Congrats on the new pump. Do you have any video of it in action? You should review the pump and report back on occasion to let us know how it continues to perform

Don't worry about the folks who are trying to **** all over your new pump. If you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

Actually, I think it's good to question whether this is in fact a totally separate product or a relabeled one. Nothing against the OP at all. But for anyone else looking to move away from one product or another or wanting to purchase a certain product and not another its good to know who actually made that product.

I would hope this is more constructive then criticism. If there's any negativity its toward Jaebo not the OP.

Like I said before, it's made by Jebao but backed by a real company doing business in the US. If there is a problem they will stand behind it!!!

Yep, and that's a good thing. I emailed them asking who makes and assembles their ecodrift pumps.

Much like Coralvue and Maxspect. Except Coralvue doesn't hide the fact they are just distributors and handle warranty claims.

And I'm not saying anything bad about the AquaMedic pump at all. I have 5 Jebao WP pumps in my tanks, and if these are pretty much the same (maybe a few minor improvements) that's OK.

I've never shopped AquaMedic pumps (I have one of their skimmers and it's amazing, and I had their MH/t5 fixtures till I switched to leds). So how does the AquaMedic pump compare cost wise to the Jebao?
