Aqua medic skimmer

I recently purchased the A M 1000 HOT unit, and it foams like crazy, filling the collection cup in about 10 minutes.

I've shortened the tubing (both air intake and connection between the pump and skimmer unit) as much as possible.

I covered the overflow hole for a day and ran the unit so it wouldn't foam. Took off the plastic wrap, and *BAM*, filled the collection cup up again.

I've written AM for help, and haven't recieved a reply.

Do you all have any advice? I'd like to get this thing running.

Someone mentioned water conditioner, I just did a 30 gallon change in my 75g tank, but the water had sat for a week in the mixing tub, heavily airated. I do use a PVC based conditioner, but only about a tablespoon.

Thanks,
Mike

I got an 8" pipe and extended the column, after 2 days it died down and that seemed to do the trick. Works like a champ now.

Hi Mike,

I apologize we were not able to reply quickly to your question. It sounds like you were able to solve the problem with your skimmer. Many times when a skimmer is first started up it can foam clear liquid for a few days. One way to help prevent this is to rinse the skimmmer with hot water before running the unit.

Again I do apologize for the delay in responding. If there is anything else we can do for you do not hesitate to ask.
