aqua medic skimmer?!?!

hey all,
i am just posing to see if you have had good/bad experiences with the aqua medic turboflotor? a fellow reefer wants to trade me that and i was wondering what exactly you folks have felt about them...or maybe a picture of it in your sump.

checked the web and so far so good=) some person posted this "10 why not to buy a aqua medic skimmer!" thread on a site, and people let him have it.

any suggestion on the skimmer will help cause i dont have the money to buy a skimmer over 150 dollars plus he wants to trade.

I own a Turboflotor and so far I'm happy. I have it plumbed from my overflow. I have to empty the collection cup every 5-7 days and it usually starts forming a foam head right away after cleaning the collection cup. I have a 120g SPS tank and it's the only one I've ever had on it. I just wonder if there is other gunk in the water it is not pulling out. Having to clean it every week says it is working well. HTH

well thank you very much for the reassurance! i cant wait to get this thing and yeah so far it seems to actually have AWESOME reviews the deeper i get into it. just takes about a min or so to fine tune it, but then shes rock'n'rollin!

im going to have it directly underneath the overflow so i'd like to maybe see how you have your setup, or if you can explain in just a bit more in depth on how you do that...please.

well hope to hear some more on some others or that explanation.

My setup has 2 returns that connect with a common pipe. The common return pipe has an extra tee on it with a hose going directly into the skimmer.

If you plan on doing this same or similar setup don't make the same mistake I did, put the tee for the skimmer pointing downward or what would probably be better is to use a 1''x1''x1'' tee and then reduce it to 1/2''. I used a 1x1x1/2 and put it on an angle toward the skimmer. Allot of the water seems to bypass the 1/2'' connection towards the skimmer. I have to turn the other valves down to get a good amount of water to go to the skimmer.
