Aquabacs' Cadlights Artisan 50 Azooxanthellae Tank build

Mike,

Thanks, great resource

I have a many papers about crinoids, if anyone is interested PM me.

BTW, feather stars are most certainly *not* "selective eaters"

I don't want to start a fight here, but what I meant by "selective eaters" is that they will catch things in the water on their arms, and if it doesn't taste good or isn't what they want, they won't eat it. And generally, each different kind only eats certain things.

The only problem with feather stars is, you won't really know if it's gonna make it long term until after about 18 months. They can just fall apart over night.

I believe a few reason this is caused by but it is not from poor nutrition but more by changes in the aquarium environment. There needs to be more documentation when a person who is keeping crinoids and has one that suddenly dies. Tank parameters, crinoids behavior/feeding posture and what changes were done to the aquarium prior to the animal expiring. There also has to be consideration for additives, medias, chemicals, etc when you have an aquarium with filter feeders.

Joined the club. Yesterday received a nice Archohelia Rediviva from Todd at Cherry Corals. Today it was eating mysis like crazy.

Wednesday is tank maintenance day. Did a 25 gallon E.S.V salt water change, cleaned skimmer with vinegar & water, and finished it off with a Stone Imperial Russian Stout :)

Well what? Did he ask you not to take pics of him when his mouth is full? I don't care what my rhizo says, even when he's eating- if I'm gonna take pics, I'm gonna take pics!

Just kidding. But we do need some...

Not bad... (not the pic, the coral!)

Do you need to feed every mouth?

I'm gonna get one soon.

Sorry for the bad point & shoot pic. Today I fed it mysis & cyclops in a 1/2 cup of aquarium water with 4 drops of FM UltraMin S. Turned the pumps off and covered the entire piece in food. Waited a half hour and did it again.

I'm working on setting up the new 25 gallon NPC tank. I already have the tank, fully cured live rock, and fully cured live sand for it, all I need now is a stand! lol

Is it an all-in-one or has a sump? You can pick up a Marineland stand or get working on building a custom one :)

NEver kept a green feather star, cool looking and on the list :)
Have you had luck with basket stars? One melted in days for me the other lasted a year then disappeared for me. I'd like to find a baby basket star, cool animals IMO

I never got into keeping basket stars due to most of them get too big for the size aquariums I keep, they are interesting though.

I have a basket star. A little guy, only about 6" when fully expanded. I had two but one disappeared. I like the green feather stars. I have two orange ones and one yellow with purple tips of its "feathers". I believe they are all called beaded crinoids.
