Aquabacs' Cadlights Artisan 50 Azooxanthellae Tank build

HI Western

Sorry but i have a 30 m Coral Breed station where we breed and feed all our corals
Even with that size of Aquarium system we did not need that ammount of food you said
you forget that F; Food is dry and pure concentrate, if you want to compare that with luiquid foods you need to buy in best case between 20 . 50 times more stuff
That means a 250 ml bottle with LPS Food has the same nutrition and Dryweight like
12,5 Liters of a well known Phytoplancton concentrate !!!

I didn't count the cost of food for other peoples tanks, I counted the cost of food per year for Aquabacs tank.

My future and dream tank is a mixed SPS/LPS/NPC tank. The tank would be a 125 gallon custom made and I calculated the costs of upkeep being about $2,500-$3,000 for electricity, salt, calcium/alk, bulbs, food for the NPS stuff, GFO, Carbon, the new carbon pellets, and more. lol

Moses, there is a big difference beteen actual and potential :) FWIW. I try not to discuss cost of things so the content of the thread is not distracted. When you are looking to your tank build, if you are planning to have a operating budget of 3k-5k for a 125 you might be slightly over budgeting yourself. There are plenty of ways to cut that down; bulk carbon and GFO from BRS, make a deal with your LFS to buy salt by the skid, and there are deals that can be made to drive down the cost of foods as well too.

I know, I know. I was bored and just wanted to find the potential cost of things. My operating budget wont be 3k-5k, its going to be more into the $2,500-$3,000 range, big difference. :p Yup, true...

Okay, back on topic, post more pictures of the tank please! :p

This weekend I have Manhattan Reefs Frag swap on Sunday and can't wait! There is going to a ton of vendors (I will post the list up later) there and even a presentation on non-photosynthetic coral feeding by Todd from Atlantis Marine World. Yes, non-photosynthetic corals are finally hitting the mainstream! It is exciting to see topics like this up for discussion.

Do you think crinoids are opportunistic feeders?

Mike

Yup! Back at UCD we had a sea apple that did that. Wandered around the reef a bit until it settled on attaching itself to the spraybar, where it never ventured from for years and years.

Lol, based on your tank I doubt you drink Bud and Stoly. I see you as a Johnnie Walker Blue person

Marty

Thanks for the offer. I can break down everything into a full spread sheet if needed but I dont feel the need to bore everyone :) More of an interesting spread sheet/graphs would be the cost vs volume of beer/alcohol spent/consumed keeping my sanity

Mike

Marty, I am a big fan of scotch that is over the legal age of consent but unfortunately.... I am beer snob

Most know my favorite local fish stores but here is my local beer store DeCicco's any store that fills 64 oz Growlers is OK in my book!

Not one pound a week. It is a skinney freezer bar. It is easy to cut them up into daily portions. I can tell you how many ounces when I get back home. I am at the Manhattan Reefs Fall Frag Swap doing set-up.

lol. That is a hell of a lot of cyclop-eeze! The bars only a few ounces that are available through freezer bar dot com. They sell smaller bars for shops to put their logo on.

This past weekend was a blast at the Manhattan Reefs Frag Swap. Nice size event, don't remember the final count of people but there were over 300 registered and paid for the night before the event.Met a lot of local guys from MR forum, few friends and bunch of killer vendors. Let me say this Todd and Brett from Cherry Corals are a trip! They are two funny as hell dudes and they brought some serious corals to the show. Pictures on their site are great but seeing those corals under the AI lights on their display, is pretty amazing.

Todd Gardner from Atlantis Marine World did a good talk on non-photosynthetic coral feeding. If you haven't met Todd before, he has an insane resume of breeding marine fish, might even single handedly have the record. Talk covered a lot of the basics of non-photosynthetic coral feeding, had a cool video of dendrophyllia spawning (I believe it was a Marvin Gaye track playing in the background while the video was on...too funny). He also hooked me up with a mention in the presentation; picture of my tank and refrigerated feeder (my first style I made) so Todd scored some cool points in my book.
