Aquabacs' Cadlights Artisan 50 Azooxanthellae Tank build

There's a small colony of what looks like a branching dendro on DD, at least there was last night, and the price was reasonable.

That was a miniature version of this.....

Long over due...here is a video of the beautiful Dendrophyllia colony I picked up from Ian at Reef Odyssey.

Mike

I know where there's a larger version of it available right now ;)

Again Mike, thanks for the feedback and I hope to find another gem to add to that aquarium of yours soon, it was a pleasure to deal with you :D

Man, after looking at all your pictures/tank, I wish I had more room in my 28 gallon HQI Nano-Cube. Its already stuffed. LOL My plan is not to get any more Non-Photosynthetic stuff except a few Feather Starfish and be done with the tank.
Here is a FTS that I took today.

I have 6 gorgonians in the tank. lol All are Photosynthetic tho. :o
Check out my newest addition, got it a few days ago.
Its a Photosynthetic Gorgonian.

Looking good, Moses. Is your basket star in there too? Looks a little tight in there ;) Make sure you allow yourself enough room for grow out, access for cleaning, and water flow. So what non-photosynthetic corals do you have in there now? Is this tank stand alone or do you have it connected to a sump or your other tank?

Thanks! Yup, he is in the rock work, saw him come out of the rocks last night. Yeah. I currently have Orange Sun corals, Black Sun corals, and 1 Basket Starfish, I know its not a lot, but its all I have room for. lol Maybe I'll add some kind of non-photosynthetic gorgonian/coral and put it under the large red Monti cap when I get the Feather Starfish. Its an All In One tank, its the 28 gallon HQI JBJ Nano-Cube, so it only has the back chambers, its not hooked to any other tank/sump. My plan is to triple the filtration I currently I have on it before I start getting Feather Starfish because the last thing I'll need is algae growing everywhere when I start adding a ton of foods. lol What I currently have for filtration right now is a little fishy reactor filled with GFO, a tiny bit of Carbon in a mesh bag, and I do weekly water changes of 7 gallons(25%). My plan is to double the GFO in the reactor, install another little fishy reactor for Carbon, install a 50" tall fluidized sand filter that is 4 inches in diameter, and bump the water changes to 10 gallons(36%) a week. What do you think?

For some odd reason, the Basket Starfish doesn't want to accept any foods what so ever, I've tried my homemade fish food, very small fish eggs, LIVE Trigger pods, I'm currently raising some Artemia nauplii and see if it goes for that.

For the basket star try frozen cyclop-eeze (the bar or brick type). I will try to post up later a link to get it cheap as long as you don't mind buying in bulk, 2 lb+ bricks. I would also try feeding Reef Nutrition Rotifeast. You should be able to pick up a bottle locally with no issues. Make sure if you decide to purchase any large bottles, check the date on it, and plan out the use of the bottle effectively. If the use by date is close, most shops will sell it at deep discount, or if spend enough cash they will give you bottles for free :D

Ok, I'll give that a try. That would be great! If Frozen cyclop-eeze fails, I'll try the Reef Nutrition Rotifeast. Okay, thanks for the heads up!

*EDIT* Hey, what do you use to mix your food in your glass container? Do you use a Magnetic Mixer?

As of right now I don't use a magnetic stirrer. For cyclop-eeze it is dosed manually in a cup of aquarium water. Now that I am back from vacation, I can work more on adjusting my auto feeding system. I also would like to clean up the plumbing for my system. Visually it could look a lot better than it does.

Oh, ok. I bought a Magnetic Mixer for $5 at a garage sale a week ago, it works fine except it didn't come with a little magnet. So, all I need to get is a little magnet. I'm going to use it once I start getting Feather Starfish. :D

How are you planning exactly to use it to feed your crinoid? Is going to be refrigerated of something that will be left out next to the aquarium?

Put it inside a mini refrigerator, the Magnetic mixer will be inside the frig with a large glass vial on top mixing the food. Its going to be kind of like your set up.

I am going to see it person on Saturday but I am not planning to buy it...that fish should be have a tank dedicated just for itself so its beauty can be appreciated. Jason got in a few high end LPS corals this week and a few other fish besides that one ;) If I had a tank that actually required light, I would go all out this week, there is some amazing stuff in.

I forgot to mention yesterday that the place to pick up the bulk mysis, cyclop-eeze, etc is at Jehmco. Just add a dot com after it and you are in business. If you are in the NY, NJ lower CT area it only takes 1 day to get to you so it is a big savings on shipping too. To give credit where credit is due, it would be to KathyC over on MR for sharing the link. Able to save a ton of cash on feeding my tank...now it looks like I need to get a few more corals to feed a 2.79 kilo block of mysis to though.

Why do you prefer frozen cyclop-eez over freeze dried?

Gresham, you beat me to it! Personally, to me the the difference between the two is like night and day. What would you rather like to eat....steak or freeze dried steak? My corals feel the same way :) When I use the frozen cyclop-eeze eveything seems to wakes up; polyps, crinoids, fish and so on. When I use the freeze dried, it does not have the same effect on the tank; there is response from the fish but little from everything else. So I stick with frozen.

lol ;) Got the basics of the Profilux set up. Have it connected directly to a netbook next to the tank. The most difficult part was getting the connection between the Profilux to netbook to work. I had to use a USB to serial cable adapter (non GHL). Calibration was easy for PH probe, temp probe was dead on for temperature and now the fun part begins.
