Stylaster

Stylaster arrived today and is in tank. Got a little banged up, broke a few branches but it is definitely alive ;) it's a good start.

Mike

It is not soft but brittle and very delicate. Branches can be easily broken with the slightest touch. In the picture above I have the coral laying on its side. Minus the few broken branches, it is actually shaped well.

hi mike
can you see any polyps on your stylaster.

here in germany it is difficult to get those animals. a few years ago we get an import of pink distichlopora. but at this time nobody knows about keeping it alive. after 2 months only pics reminds me about this wonderful corals.

I will try to get some better close ups. You can see some towards the right branches of the coral.

Also my Swabbie came in this evening and going to set it up later today, pictures to follow. Really excited about this product since I am currently cleaning the skimmer cup/neck once in the morning and once in the evening.

Swabbie is now set up on my skimmer :D

Timer on my Profilux 3 set to have it run for 1 minute every 3 hours.

Got a few parts in from GHL on Saturday :) Everything for the ATO is here except my aqualifter pump (could not find any instock locally). Hopefully the ATO will be set up by the end of the week and I have a 4 pump dosing unit I am waiting on GHL. One thing that I an up in the air with is do I continue to dose ESV 2-part or do I attempt to go with just dosing kalkwasser in my top off. Unfortunately even with all Azoox tanks we cant get away from dosing. So right now my tanks daily demand is only 20 ml of each, not much and easy to set up 2 channels on the GHL contoller. So what do you think?

Mike

I would love to get that swabbie as my skimmer builds up with gunk daily as well. Unfortunately I don't think it would fit under my stand since its already a tight fit as is.

I'm surprised you have to dose Mike! Especially with the amount of water you change. You think its the monster dendrophyllia colonies you have?

The swabbie needs anout 6 inches of access to get it out. 2 inches for the cap and 4 for the wiper blade. No lie, it could be the absolute best investment for my tank. With the skimmer neck being cleaned every 3 hours it is now working more efficiently.

For the alk and calcium...we are not immortal in the azoox world. Water changes alone could not keep the levels where they should be. Something eveyone needs to keep an eye on.

Since I put this in the continous feeding thread, I might as well put it here as well.
This is my fishmate autofeeder I use for dosing the Fauna Marin dry feeds (MinF,Clam,Seafan). Below it is a feeding ring used to prevent the food from spreading across the surface of the aquarium. Directly below the feeding ring is a Vortech MP40w, as the food sinks it is pulled into the Vortech and broadcast fed through out the aquarium.

Mike

Correct. It is on the left side of the display rim which isn't visually appealing to some. I would consider adding it to the last chamber of my sump, it would be ideal, if there was only room. With the return pump, pump for the refrigerated feeding system, and piping there is little room to cram in anything else. Until I get a larger tank, sump, or different type of dry feeding system; I will have to continue to use it in this manner. Thanks for the suggestion on locating it to the sump :)

That is really slick Mike. Can you elaborate on the feeding ring? What's the blue portion there? Is this something you DIY'd?

Thanks Matt!

Mike is correct. It is a simple floating feeding ring from Petco. The material is just blue foam (sort of feels like thick neoprene) and there is a plastic removable collar inside of that. Needed to find a way to prevent the food from scattering across the surface before it had a chance to sink...and it works well for that purpose.
