I don't get it? Six pre-filled sealed syringes containing 20 types of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria? What do the aerobic bacteria utilize for oxygen based metabolic activity? What do the bacteria eat? What happens to the waste products from the bacteria's metabolism? 18 month shelf life in a sealed syringe?

In a hospital setting, samples being tested for bacteria are rushed from the patient to the lab, plated on culture (food) medium, and incubated! I'm not a bacteriologist, but does this sound "fishy" (pardon the pun) to anyone else?

It sounds "fishy" to me too. But I can't find any suggestion that it will hurt anything, what i did hear was positive, its fairly cheap, and I'm not a scientist---so we could be out a few bucks, or on to something.

Track your Nitrates and Phosphates as well as the others mentioned, and that would be beneficial in decided as to whether to give it a thumbs UP or DOWN.

2. Can AquaBella be used with protein skimmers?
We suggest not using a protein skimmer for at least one week after AquaBella is first applied to allow the microbes to get established. We have had a major aquarium store that has not needed to use their protein skimmer for over a year since they started using AquaBella. In fact, one of the primary benefits of AquaBella is its ability to remove proteins and other organic waste from the water. However, as with all aquarium maintenance procedures, we suggest that the owner not significantly alter their routine.

I had an uncycled 40 Gallon breeder I had to put a number of large cichlids into during a move- lost about 2/3 of them but then in desperation I put in some of this stuff, a sponge filter, and prayed. Since then the tank is still ovestocked and overfed but also ignored (other than feedings) and the fish ar doing great! It's been months without a water change due to lack of time. Look, I'e been keeping fish for over 30 yrs and don' t subscribe to the no water change for a year nonsense. Still, we often use Biospira and othe products to seed our biological filters, and I figure they just came upon some good bugs so I am now trying it on my SW FOWLR 150 and on my quarantine tanks. Will I change the water? You betcha. We'll see.

A little follow-up

I still can't comment on the efficacy in marine tanks (long story - ich outbreak led to my breaking down my 150g FOWLR - yes I will quarantine EVERYTHING from now on), but I do want to share experience with the freshwater Aquabella product.

Full disclosure: I am not in any way connected or affiliated with this product or company. I could care less if anyone buys this product. I don't sell fish products - am just a long-time hobbyist with mostly freshwater experience (30+yrs).

For freshwater, this product is AMAZING. I'mm using it in all of my freshwater tanks. It's been in my 40 gallon breeder now for many months - possibly close to a year. I run two large sponge filters and that's it. I have some adult Tropheus moori in there that have been breeding like mad. More babies in the rockwork than I can count. All I do is add water. I really have to do a partial water change as I am getting nervous now, and will be removing some of the babies to a new tank, but this flies in the face of all that I know to be true of fishkeeping. It certainly suggests that this would work well in a pond setting.

As far as marine aquariums, I don't know. I would love to know, but I just cycled my newly (re)set-up 150 FOWLR wit Bio-Spira just because I DO know that product works. What I would love, though, is to find a product that contains sufficient anaerobic denitryfing bacteria to get rid of nitrates effectively. Yes, I have chaetomorpha in my sump, but it does not seem to keep up. Anyone with long-term experience with the Saltwater Aquabella product please chime in.

Started a new reef tank with Aquabella

Started a new reef tank with Aquabella

Decided to start a new reef tank using the recommendations from Aquabella. This my 3rd tank. Started with a 46g tank with 60 lbs of live rock bought locally and 40 lbs of CaribSea live sand. Added the first tube of Aquabella. 2 days later added 3 chromis and 2 clowns. On day 7 added second tube of Aquabella along with a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp, an emerald crab, and 6 blue-leg hermit crabs. It is now day 10 and I must say I am impressed. Water testing shows no sign of ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates. All critters are happy, eating well, and swimming happily. The live rock is progressively being covered with purple, red, and pink coralline algae and the water is crystal clear. Now I am the biggest skeptic out there having been duped before by various claims, but this stuff is amazing, at least for a new start. I can't speak to how useful it would be in an established tank. I still have questions like how much protein skimming to do and maintaining proper levels of water nutrients, but as of now, I'm sold.

Humaguy, what you had was a bacterial bloom. Might have been caused by many factors, especially if you have used an other bacterial supplement or water conditioner. BBs are caused by a certain type of bacteria that are already in the tank but under stressful condition will multiply rapidly and be visible. So i guess they reacted to the other bacteria being introduced, which is actually good. Bacterial bloom do not necessitate a water change. You should have let it run its course.

Got this kit for my 15 year old Aquarium that has been suffering constant high nitrate.. my fish have been in this tank for about 8 years now. They seem to be happy even with high nitrates but im afraid to introduce any new fish. I am now on syringe #3 and Nitrates levels are still at 60-80ppm will give this a few more days after syringe #4 to see if they drop.

I added my syringe #4 on the 26th and Nitrates seemed to spike but i decided to wait it out... today 4 days later i tested my water again and WOW they are at 0ppm..... i mean i have never had stable 0ppm even after multiple water changes every few days.
Lets see how it holds up for the next week.

I currently use the product. I just started my tank in Nov 2013
I have had aquarium water testing.com continually test my water.
After 6 months I will post all my findings. At this point from from november to january first my nitrate has only gone up to 4ppm. This is a fish only tank with low stock.
