AquaC CLUB!

So,
does it make smaller bubbles? Right now, this thing is going off!
From what I have read, the 1 inch is the same size just with a larger barb, yes?

Yup. It's because the mag pump is made to run on 1" pipe to get the rated amount of flow from it. This way you can run 1" straight from the pump to the injector.

I skim pretty wet because I run bare bottom, but I get a full margerine container of skimmage every 12 hours. Your tank is bigger than mine so I would imagine that you would get way more.

Just e-mail Steve over at AquaC and he'll mail you one for 10 bucks, if you don't like it, you can always go back right?

Figured I would ask in here....

I have a EV120 that I am running on a 630 gph pump, but a friend asked if I wanted a free pump... its a 750 gph Octopus pump with a needlewheel impeller... would using that pump hurt anything? not sure if the needlewheel will work and figured I would ask

The injector on the EV series will not work with a needlewheel, it needs pressure in order to function properly.
This is what I was told when I asked almost the exact question a while back.

Yeah,
I see your point. I have delt with Steve in the past, great guy!
Ill give him a buzz tomorrow!

That's awesome, I'm sure you'll be super happy (seriously, it will turn your skimmer into a monster). Let me know if/when you get it hooked up.

I am very pleased with an Ocean Runner 3500 on my EV-180....took the exit gate valve off and have the air closed about 3/4 of the way, no need to restrict the OR3500 this way. Pulling out all kinds of gunk every two days or so on my stocked 180 gallon.

After seeing so many pick of the crud that people wipe from their skimmers, I decided to snap a pic of mine. I have seen a lot of pics but few can argue with the results from a finely tuned AquaC EV! Now this is what I call a @#$% load of skimmate.

Thanks for the info, I just got this pump for my EV-180. Mine is external and slightly elevated though so I'm hoping I won't have to use a flow control valve since I can't remove the gate valve.

I've been wondering if it's possible to get darker skimmate out of my Remora. Right now, I'm getting dark, tea-colored skimmate. I'm wondering if it's possible to get an even darker, almost coffee-colored, dryer skimmate. Anybody have pics of their skimmate? Please provide days worth of skimmate, fish bioload, and what you feed, and how often.

Thanks!

Ive found a thread on here about increasing the diameter on the intake pipe on the remora. You unscrew the barb fitting and screw in some fittings from your local hardware store. People say it increased the proformance close to 30% maybe more. I contacted AquaC and they said you can upgrade the pump to a mag3 or RIO1400. That probally will take up alot of room on a nano but its an idea. I'm installing a sump on my 40G right now and I'm going to try the new intake fitting with the MJ1200 on my remora, after that I might put a mag 5 on and see how it goes. Might have to see if AquaC can make a taller collection cup.

Cracking Collection Cup

Cracking Collection Cup

Has this happened to anyone else? About 4 months ago I bought an EV-180, and shortly after I started using it, the collection cup developed a crack. The cracks have kept coming and although it doesn't leak, I am starting to get concerned.

The skimmer is mounted externally, and is not near light or other sources of heat. I've always been careful about the temperature of teh water used to clean it, so that's not the problem. Any ides why it is cracking?

By the way... cracks aside, I'm thrilled with the performance of this skimmer. It took a little while to get dialed in, but now it pulls a cup or two of dark, thick gunk every few days out of my lightly stocked 125.

I think the manual says to wash it in luke warm water. I just try to match the same "feel" temperature as my tank water when cleaning it to keep from stressing it. My ev180 has a little bit from missing the mark a time or two, but my ev400's cup I've been more diligent with the temp fluctuations and it's still like new.

Edit, my reading skills must be lacking, I re-read your post. ;)
It is however, still the only answer I can think of. I cracked the ev180 when I was following their directions. After the cracks, I thought that luke warm may actually be much warmer than my tank water.

sdheath, I've washed mine in cold, warm and hot water and have had no issues. have you tried contacting AquaC about this? One of the main reasons I purchased mine was that I had heard that Jason Kim was very hands on with customer service and problems where resolved quickly and easily.

I upgraded the skimmer on my 75 from a Remora Pro w/a Mag 3 to an EV-240 w/a Mag 12. The 240 produces plenty of foam, but it's always very dry/stiff and does not collapse into a liquid (at least not for the most part). So this dry foam fairly quickly fills the collection cup and prevents any more from accumulating. I emailed AquaC and they told me that this is common with lighter loads, and I should close the gate valve more to bring the water level up into the bubble chamber until the foam produced got wetter. I did this and it worked at first, but now I'm getting dry foam all the time and I can't raise the water level any higher. Are there any other adjustments I can make, or do I maybe just have too light a load for this skimmer?
