AquaC CLUB!

OH okay gotcha. I have the 9.5 with the 1" and gate valve on and the water level is equal to the top of the black box...

I've been getting small bubbles that you can watch rise to the top slowly (as opposed to "airy" big bubbles that "swirl around everywhere...Does this sound properly adjusted to you?

kinda new to this :-)

I find I get the best skimmate when the small bubbles start to pop and larger ones appear about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up the riser. Keep in mind, I have the older EV-150 and I run mine with the water level down about an inch from where yours would be.

I called AquaC on Good Friday. I asked them if i could drill holes in the top and cap the side of the cup.

I am looking to have it hold more in the cup. With the stock cup. It would only hold about a cap. I don't have the room for a external reservoir.

Steve said that he could make a new cup without the side tap and put a hole in the top. All for the regular replacement cup price!.

Try that with made out of the country. AquaC

I'm confused. What is your mod supposed to do? I see how removing the side tap gives you more usable cup volume, but what's the purpose of the top tap?

I think it's just there to let the air out. If you seal the side tap without venting it, the skimmer will stop skimming. The cup around the top tap is there to collect whatever foam ends up getting blown out of the vent hole.

Scott,

What pump do you run on the EV150?

Mag 9.5. I'm pretty sure the 180 is fairly similar to the 150.

I don't have the room for their external collection cup. And the stock cup only held less than one "measuring cup" of skimate. Before it would run out the elbow. If I pointed it up it would start spitting when level got into the elbow area.

The mod allows it to fill all the way to the top of the inside part of the cup. It used to use the elbow for air output. The top of new cup has really just a hole to allow the skimmers air out. The tub you see going up form the cover and the one going down are just to keep the skimate in the cup. (I have not seen it go to upper area yet)

Here is a pic of the stock one.

Opps. Did not see your reply.

Right on!

Mario4254.....

What are the dimensions of your foam tower and exit plumbing? I'm wondering how far it can be pushed with the flow and pressure.
If I had two injectors I'd use the full force of the pump and split it into
a "Y" at the last moment.

where is the best place to vent the stock/standard collection cup? I noticed that my 180 stops skimming after a few days due to no air release....the collection cup is plumbed to a drain, but I don't think any air gets in or out of the drain.

I have found with the ev180 that the drain elbow can become completely clogged up with dry skimmate if not cleaned often enough. You can tell when this happens, the foam will try to come out between the cup and lid.

Also, there needs to be adequate air hole in the collection jar to let the air out of there as well.

the collection cup is plumbed to a drain, but I don't think any air gets in or out of the drain.

If air is getting into the skimmer, It must have a way out. The air leaving my skimmers drain tubing can put out a bic lighter.

Should I take the gate valve off of my 240? It's opened up all the way, what's the point in keeping it on? It sure would free up some much needed room in my sump. Just curious who is doing this.

Thanks.

It's going to take a Lot of pump to keep the water line right without the gate on a 1.5" exit plumbing. You can adjust the water line by gating the pump, but only if it is producing more than the exit plumbing can handle.

If you like you can remove it to see how it skims. The water line will drop, but how far I couldn't say. :)

The fact that your running it with the gate all the way open, is testament to the effectiveness of the 1" injector mag18 combo. ;)

Hmm, just noticed that if the vent tube in the top sticks down so that it is even with or just below the inner cyclinder (the one that the foam comes up and over into the collection cup), then when the cup is full the vent will be closed which will effectively prevent your skimmer from skimming any more (no air vent). Neat idea.

Ok, I've replaced my mag7 with an OR3500 and it's bubbling like mad but won't form a foam tower. I'm assuming this is due to some residual oils on the new pump. It's been 36hrs, does anyone have an idea of when I should start seeing foam again?

Hi -

I can't seem to find the 1" mod on the aqua-c site. Do they sell it?

It's not listed on the site, but they do sell it. Just call or email them.

Should be foaming within a couple days or so now.
