actually, looking at the picture, it looks like some dryer skim is starting right under the drain tube is a bit darker.
GREAT FOAM ACTION!!!
wish i could see the foam build up in collection cup though.

That 1000 is great, here's what my humble 180's pulling out of a 190g system atm, the cup was washed less than a day prior to this pic.

I get about 1-2 cups a day of very dark stuff you can't see through, should I be aiming for more lighter skimmate?
The pump is a 1262 with no restriction, the gate valve wide open and air choked back about 1/3-1/2.
To skim wetter I increase the air but find it difficult to maintain a good head of foam, or it could possibly flood.

Here's my bio load, 5 fish from 2.5 - 4" and one around 7".

Cheers.

Well, I just bit the bullet and ordered an EV-240 w/ Mag 18 pump from Marine Depot. This will be for my 240 which I am setting up. In the end, the compact footprint won me over, so we'll see how it all works out.

Blootang.. that tank looks GREAT! And i'm jealous of the skimmer. mind sending me that 1262..lol
i'm still tempted to get one of those pumps.

Thanks! I got this little guy when he was maybe an inch and a half long, he's up around 2-2.5" now. I hope he stays more or less reef safe, I love watching triggers swim around.

welcome JDS, nice avatar.. i have about a 7.5 -8" male bluethroat in QT.. can't wait for him to go in the 150.

well, most should have to worry about is it knocking over corals, and eating shrimp maybe snails and hermits.
and the humongous amount of waste it produces.

wait, you have this guy in a 55 gal? I know he's small, but i bet he's all over the place.
I know mine doesn't like the confines of the 29, but its only for about 5 more weeks if he stays spot free.

Cheers robsmith, I've tried a few pumps and the 1262 has been the best performer. Sorry but I'll be keeping it. ;)
BTW, that is a nice Trigger, used to keep one similar in a tank with soft corals, anemones and macro no problems. See pic in Predator/ Triggers forums.

Your aim looks "right on" to me! :D
IMO, wet or dry settings (with the AquaC skimmer line) are purely preferance, and proof is in the pudding that they are capable of both.

Kudos!

I'm pretty sure he's in favor of the move up to 240, let's put it that way!

Greg, That's fantastic! It's good to see that's worked out well for you.
I noticed that you have both the JG fittings hooked up. I'll assume those are ozone and calcium reactor lines? Also, I've never run my skimmer wet, but now I want to try it and see what happens. :) I was hoping maybe you could elaborate some on how you set yours to run wet. (and yes that does look dark for wet skimmate!)
I am running 25 mg pf ozone on occation via my cheapy Coralife ozone reactor. The calcium reactor being hooked through the skimmer has helped the tank ph. With this skimmer I have had to bring the water level up about 1" above the box for wet skim. This is due to the fact that I am running the Mag 24 from my EV400. I'm sure if I ran a bigger pump like a mag 36, I would not have to worry. I am not to interested in doing that since the electricity rates just increased. Air valves are wide open. I set the foam head to about 1" - 2" below the tope of the cup and let it do it's thing. I clean the skimmer riser tube and cup every 1-2 weeks.

Well, with that much production, i guess that mag24 is doing the job.

curious to what other pumps you personally attempted Blootang?
right now i'm about to give up on the QO 4000, Looks like it wants to start foaming up, but just doesn't.
tried Sen 900, but can't get it in the "skimmer" compartment with the G3. NOte sen 900 can overpower the 180. woke up with at least 20 gallons of saltwater on the floor and 2 pumps making a sucking noise, glad i caught it before burning them up.

I like Eheim pumps, and have tried both 10 and 1260's with the 180. Some say they maintain good pressure which the ev skimmers need and they are quiet and last for years. The 1262 is the best by far for consisent skimming. I overflowed mine a few times to with the stronger pump, best to cut the air down and keep the drain and collection bottle in the sump untill you get it set. I dont tweek it anymore, just a cup and neck clean 1-2 times a week-and can sleep at night!

Hi all,
So IÃ"šÃ‚´m one of those who canÃ"šÃ‚´t make their skimmer to work.
I have a ev400 with a mag 18.
I just canÃ"šÃ‚´t make the skimmer to skimm to the collection cup, it all stays on the neck of the foam chamber and there will form a think mud paste, but nothing on the collection chamber.
SO I wrote Steve at Aquac and he told me to check the valves and inlets.
Well, I checked the water inlet, clean, checked the air valve, clean. ALso checked the hose and it wasnÃ"šÃ‚´t submerged.
I raised the water level in the foam chamber a little bit but there wasnÃ"šÃ‚´t any skimmate on the collection cup, even do the skimmer produces bubbles like crazy and there is a lot of foam coming up on the foam chamber, it just wonÃ"šÃ‚´t go into the collection cup.
IÃ"šÃ‚´ve been increasing the water level in the foam chamber, now it is about 1/2 of the cylinder and some skimmate is being collected in the collection chamber... but itÃ"šÃ‚´s too little and not consistently but from time to time. If I increase the water level more, the skimmer stops making bubbles.
IÃ"šÃ‚´m wondering if replacing the spray injector with a beckett valve could be beneficial, this way I could rise the water level even more and since the beckett is not dependant of air being present inside the back box, I think it could work nice.
BTW, I have the skimmer correctly installed, i have it on my sump and I raised it in order to have the water level below the gate valve. ALso, water level inside the sump is controlled with a auto top/off so it stays the same 24/7.
Please help me because I spent 480 dollars on this piece of equipment and canÃ"šÃ‚´t believe itÃ"šÃ‚´s not working.
Thanks
Marco
ps. here are some pics, this is what it has skimmed in 2 days! and this is one of the best skimming times, most of the time it wonÃ"šÃ‚´t produce not even this.

You can see the collection chamber has no liquid inside.
If I lower the water level inside the foam chamber, the foam canÃ"šÃ‚´t reach the collection cup. if I set it higher, the skimmer wonÃ"šÃ‚´t produce more foam because the inside chamber in the black box will fill with water.
Any thoughts?
SHould I get a bigger pump?
TIA
MArrco

Sorry Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not to familiar with this model. Is your skimmer return above or below the water line in your sump?

mag 18 pump doesn't have enough pressure for the skimmer.i'm
convinced of this. i don't have a 400 but i do have an old 200 and i'm driving it w/ a mak-4 and it works good.

The water return is about 1" above the water level.
DO you think this pump is not big enough?
Probably it can be the issue, it has never been able to produce foam as in capitain coralÃ"šÃ‚´s picture.
Marco

i had this skimmer 6 yrs. time to retire it.
time to try out needle wheel weirdness. i say it again
you need a external pressure pump. one w/ good psi.
