I would also like to see how a 1" injector fit in a 3/4" hole.
Did it get redrilled?

Can't knock someting without trying it.
I am also curious about the 1"injector, how do u screw that in if it is the hole is made to accept 3/4"
The 1" injector refers to the size of the hose barb fitting. The threaded end is still 3/4"

IMO, a larger injector may help if you're running a pump not made for pressure. The 3/4 injector works just fine with a pressure rated pump.

Here's the pic again of my stink machine

Which pump are you running?

well, placed order for a eheim 1262 today.. Should be in next week.
Maybe i'll get something similar to the above. But with that, i'll have to figure out another way to install the skimmers, that section the qo is in just big enough for it. Eheim is a lot larger.

Greg...... I'm using the GenX PCX40 (mak4) with my ev400. I remember being worried at the time I purchased it, thinking I should have bought an Iwaki, but I worried for nothing. This combo jams.

I'm going to have updates soon (within a month, probably)on a ev180 (out from retirement) with a new GenX PCX30. This will replace an old diy skimmer that's just not cutting the mustard on my 75 gallon softie tank. The tank would have heat issues if I used the mag9, so I bought the pcx30 for good pressure and low heat transfer. It was a toss up between the pcx30 and the eheim 1262. I like how the genx works on the ev400, so I bought another one. :) I'll let you guys know how that works out.

I only used the mag on mine just because I'm too lazy to drill the sump for a pressure pump. I may decide to go that route in the future though w/ the ev1000.

Greg....There are a few skimmers I wouldn't put my dog up against, and yours is one of them. :D I believe you've proved to us all that the mags work well with the larger injector. Yeah, I was wondering how long it would take you to "feel the itch" on the pump upgrade. ;)

I was very happy with my ev180/mag9 combo on my (since taken down) prop system, and 180sps(before the upgrade). My 75 gal tank already has heat issues and I don't want to add to it.

The only thing holding me back is the new increase in electricity rates. I have had a higher bill this winter than I have had in the summer.

Thanks guys for your input, sorry for taking so long to reply.
IÃ"šÃ‚´m ordering a 1" valve, to see if that helps.
BTW, the mag 18 is tricky to install, because it has a 3/4 output but you should use 1 1/2" hose with it, and then reduce it to 3/4" so it can fit the skimmer...
Capitain coral, you skimmer is working amazingly! I canÃ"šÃ‚´t see the water line but the foam chamber is filled with bubbles!
IÃ"šÃ‚´ve never seen that in mine.
Probably itÃ"šÃ‚´s the pump. SHould I get a mag 24 (cheap and easy to install), or should I get an external pump?
Thanks guys!!

Now I found the genx pcx40 on exotic fish... it is really cheap compared to other inline pumps!
But it says this pump is rated 1190 gph, and the mag 24 is 2400gph... I think the mag 24 is a better choice right?

I copied and pasted these stats from Marine Depot. Take note of the head pressure ratings. I think that's the real science behind determining the power of the pump to be used.

Mag Drive 18.... 1800 GPH maximum flow with a 21` shut-off

Mag Drive 24.... 2400 GPH maximum flow with a 20` shut-off

Gen-X PCX-40 (Mak4)....1190 gph......22' (6.8m)

Gen-X PCX-55HP.....1140 gph......26.2' (8m)

IK1153....MD55RLT....1" / 1"....1080 gph.......26.9'

This is why the Iwaki is the top rated pump for the ev400. The mag 24 should come very close to the performance of the mak4. The larger injector will probably make your mag18 work, and with the mag24 will probably smoke my skimmer. ;)

hi guys this is the first time i have ever used this website.....so hello...hope all r well......

is the aquaC really that gud??? i have heard great things about the deltec mce 600.......any comparison to the two??? both r small and hong on types

ViX:
Welcome.
I think you would get a better mix of opinions if you started a thread and asked everyone.

Welcome to RC VIx! :D

I agree with Ti. Try posting in the Lighting, Filtration, & Other Equiptment forums.

The AquaC skimmers are sort of underdogs in the skimmer world. They do work well when you understand the principals. There are other Skimmer fan Clubs way more popular, but some IMO harbor masses of bandwagon fans. I think the ev models can duke it out with the best of skimmers.

Capitain coral, you skimmer is working amazingly! I canÃ"šÃ‚´t see the water line but the foam chamber is filled with bubbles!

Leopard Shark....
Yeah, I manage the water height line and air valve together. I play with the exit gate when needed so that the waves appear in the riser, and then I lower it slowly until I no longer see the wave crests in the riser. I can't wait to see what happens to yours with the new injector.

In all fairness, I did notice that those pics on page 7 were taken right after my 2-3 day skimmerless Red Bug treatments, and I actually pull out about half of that normally. I only have two fish in my 180 tank.

Hi guys,

Do you know if you can hook up ozone to this skimmer. From what I am reading, you can hook up the effluent drip from your calcium reactor but what about ozone?

Also, if anyone is dosing ozone, how well does it work with your AquaC.

Thanks,
Waxx

Waxxiemann....Check out page 9 and scroll down to gcarroll's ev1000.

The ev1000 and ev2000 come standard with both JG fittings. :) You can run either with the ev400 and ev240. Of course any model could be orderd the way you want it. They even made Greg's sexy. :eek2:

Leopardshark, I forgot to get this link up in time. I bought lights, test kits and my pcx30 (for my ev180)from reefexotics on two occasions and the prices can't be beat. The service was even better.

Here is the link to reefexotics GenX pump page.
