um, in question about the eheim.. like said before i took a sen900 that has more pressure and gph than the eheim.. put the eheim 1262 in its place, no other changes and the eheim is making the thing foam NICELY.. I don't care what they say eheim makes this skimmer WORK!! i get more production in 12 hours on the ev-180/eheim 1262 combo than i'd get in 3 days with the asm g3.. and now that is saying something.
Yes the ev combo dies down longer after feeding or hands in the tank but when it kicks in, it kicks more than the g3.
with sen .. well takes a while the qo 4000, it got bubbles to the top of box but didn't ever foam up.
It could be that the eheim is more consistent or its less whatever it is, it works MUCh better.
plus after running all day long with part of it sticking out the water.. that area is still cool to the touch.
Yes it cost more for the eheim... but its WORTH it. You're definately getting what paying for with it.
THe sen 900 on it wouldn't get out as much as the asm...
and the sen 700 is the one its rated for.
mburnikas, here, for the ev180
Hi Robert, I would say that the Eheim will give you the best performance, but it will need to be used in conjunction with a valve to regulate flow, since it is a stronger pump that handles pressure very well. This way you would be able to fine tune the flow to give you the highest possible performance. I don't know the actual psi needed, but I would suggest a 700-900 gph pump, depending on how well it handles pressure, which is important with our spray injection skimmers. In order of performance: Iwaki 30 RLT, Eheim 1262, Mag 9, and Mag 7. We haven't tested the Oceanrunner, so I can't give you any personal experience on how that performs. Remember, that some of the larger pumps will need to be regulated. Thanks, and let me know if you have any other questions!- - - - - - - - - - - Steve PrinceCustomer Service Manager
