have a remora for my 37gal. show reef and is a great product. The only way i probably switch to another brand of hang-on skimmer would be for a deltec... and thats only if they bring those prices down.

How do you have the water level in the sump leveled to the water level in the skimmer? Is it at the same level in both units??

The skimmer is raised so the output is about 1" above the water level in the sump.

To those of you who are using the Eheim pumps. I’m looking for dimensions of the pump without the suction side hose adapter in place. Supposedly both the 1260 and the 1262 are of the same dimensions so if anyone could help me that would be great. I’m looking specifically for the distance from how far the output connection opening is from the edge of where the suction end is. Could these pumps be broken down any more to make them shorter? Like not using the intake cover, etc. I’m planning to build a sump/fuge out of a 20gal tank and would like to place both the skimmer and the pump in the same section/compartment. (skimmer above the pump) I’m making this for my 40gal reef tank that is lightly stocked yet has some previously heavily abused live rock. Realistically I don’t plan on getting a bigger tank so after bouncing back and forth between the EV-120 and the EV-180; I’ve decided to plan on going with the EV-120. From what information I’ve been able to find, both the skimmer and the Eheim pump are near the same dimensions in length. I’m thinking that there may be enough room to offset the pump underneath the skimmer just enough to where the hose going from the pump to the skimmer would run just along the edge of the skimmer and still have some clearance for water to freely enter the pump. I just need some accurate dimensions to find out if this will work. I understand that I can put the skimmer outside of the sump/fuge but I would like to keep things contained in an area that is more leak proof / “idiot” proof.

i am settin up a 33g tank for a anenome a couple of clowns and a couple of seahorses. I have a AquaC Remora PRO w/ a mag7 w/ the mag7 skimmerbox do you think it would work good on this tank ???

Well from what I’ve read a lot of people consider these skimmers to be one of the better hang-on types out on the market. As for using a mag7 unfortunately I personally can’t help you there. It sounds a bit strong to me and would imagine you would have to throttle back the pump with a valve, just guessing though... Hopefully others that know more about this will jump back in here to help you out as well.

One other thing... I think you’re going to run into trouble trying to feed those seahorses with clownfish in there as well. I know my own clown is a pig when it’s feeding time.

I have 2 seahorses in my 180g reef tank with over 200x turmover in the tank with the clowns and other fish for the last 2 years so im not too worried about it

That’s great to hear of your success and I apologize if I sounded insulting. I was merely thinking of the smaller confines of a 33gal tank.

I've only used 2 hang on back skimmers, the cpr bak pak and the Remora Pro. Ran them both at the same time, and the Remora Pro was a much much better skimmer than the Bak Pak.

Of course my n = 2, so take it with a grain of salt....

Im running a ev 180 on a 12 gallon nano, no kidding. Of course its sitting in a 20 gallon sump/refuguim. No i didnt buy this skimmer for this tank specificly, but hey i had it, and it works great. As stated in the middle pages of this thread, this skimmer takes some love and patience, but when its on its on. When i finish my 79 gallon cube, it will go in the thirty gallon sump. I will also be upgrading the pump to a eheim 2062. For now, the skimmer pump (mag 7) is 4 times as powerfull as my return pump. The water leaving my sump is pretty polished.

Hi. Does anyone have a picture of an AquaC Urchin modified with a drain fitting to accomodate a waste container. How much of the skimmer did you have to trim to be able to fit the waste cup with the drain fitting attached?

I have a ev-240. I don't understand why you set the water level so low? Mine is not running yet, but it seems like that's a long way for the foam to go to the cup. Kind of strange compared to any other skimmer out there. What is the best pump out there for my 240? It will be in sump.

Better IME to have to throttle the pump (or adjust the air valve) than to not have enough pump.

Stay away from Mag there screws rust and will cause issues with your corals

I have no idea what im losing to evap, the sump is on auto top off. I tell you, my skimmer set up with a mag 7 with the water level where they tell you, skimms like crazy. Once you have the gate valve set up, there is no need to mess with it besides the air. As silly as it sounds running this 180 on a nano, i tell you this, the tank cant be any happier. Of course its going on a larger tank sometime, but i had this so im using it. I have had many skimmers. Berlin, SeaClone, ASM G4x, Old school aqua c 120, Coral life super skimmer, thats all i can think of at the moment. This skimmer by far is the best i have used. Im over needle wheel, they took more finiking then the aqua c ever did. The hard part with the aqua c is to leave it alone. You have to leave it alone!! Get the water close and dont touch it for 48 hours. Then tweak the gate valve in one hour increments untill it is blasting the stuff out of the tank. This skimmer set up from the factory settings, skims plenty. Im pulling 1/4 of the collection cups capacity a day, and thats on a light bio load 12 gallon tank. Like i said, im wouldnt be suprised if im knocking the salt out of the tank with this thing Im sure im way way way overskimming this tank, but i havent seen any ill effects.
