Aquacontroller Jr or ReefKeeper2

I am interested in a basic controller. Not the pro or elite models. Does anyone have experience with either of these? They look comprarable in functions and price. It does seem that the Aquacontroller has a more robust programming language and more flexible? Is there anything the aquacontroller can do that the reefkeeper can't?

Thanks.

im running just the aquacontroller jr. ive been in the hobby since 2001, and this is probably one of the best purchases ive made for my tanks. i dont know why i didnt get one earlier.

Yeah I've been leaning toward the aquacontroller. How do you guys mount it? The one thing I like better on the RK is that you can surface mount it for a nice finished look. That way you can have the display right in front for quick access. Doesn't look like there is an easy way to hide the wires on the aq jr. Would probably mount on the inside of the cabinet?

I have owned 2 ACjr's and sold them to get the RK2. It may have less options, but it is so much easier to use IMO. Also the aquarium program you can get for free with it is awesome! Has a built in web cam option so you can view your tank while your on vacation. I will be getting the elite asap!

RK2 ALL the way!..:D:D:D

I dont know what i would do without mine.. Its VERY user friendly. Over sized controllers are overrated..LOL

ClownReef, nice mount. That is what I want to do but maybe on the canopy. Don't like the idea of having the controller within reach of my 1 and 3 year olds :). Question, If i have it mounted on my canopy and have to remove the canopy. Is it easy to disconnect the controller? I assume if you disconnect it, everything will shut off? That's not ideal. Would you loose your settings if the controller is disconnected?

Does anyone have images of the aq jr mounted?

The one thing I wish the RK2 had was the ability to program/script like the aq jr. Guess I haven't entirely thought it through but can the RK2 do everything that the aq jr scripting can do? Having a hard time thinking of a scenario that the RK2 couldnt do. Does anyone kow of anything?

I looked at both and went with the RK2. I don'r recall all of the reasons but I'm sure price with options had a lot to do with it.

I will also say the RK2 is easy enough to talk someone through how to reprogram something over the phone. I had to talk my wife through a change once and also a gal that was house sitting.

HTH

That chart is incorrect. RK2 can be hooked to a computer and it can give email alerts. My buddy has one and I log into his computer all the time to look at the web cam, his ph, and his temp while he is away.

Its easy to disconnect.

No, you wouldn't lose the setting since it has a built in battery.

I went with the Aquacontroller junior because I wanted the Tunze control you get with the AquaSurf module. Plus, the ACjr/DC-8 kit is an incredible bargain.

RK2 for me!

-blue display
-super easy to use
-great CS support
-logging, webserver, etc via myReef app
-good hysteresis on set points
-flush mountable
-not fugly

I use my RK2 to monitor my tank anywhere I go:

Yes it does allow for computer/email use. You can use a wireless usb and have it log without wires to your comp/laptop.

I currently have the ACjr and was looking into getting a new controller system.

I'm still flipping my coin on either the RK2 or the RKE.

The controller chart says that the RK2 can't be programed through a computer? is this true?

The one thing I like about the ACjr is the ability to program the controller through my computer, I hop this is true for the RK2 as well.

Also there web sight doesn't say much about there software "myreef" is there somewhere I can take a look at it?

Thanks

-Don't let the programming language of the ACjr. throw a wool over your eyes. You may think you will have these awesome programming ideas, then you input them into the acjr and viola, Your lights are coming on in the middle of the night, you wake in the morning to a tank where the temp dropped 5 plus degrees because the heater did not come on at your preset temp. It is all becuase you threw in a "bad" command.
I would try a RK2 or the RKelite. Just my opinon.

RK2. I wouldn't worry about programming it from a computer. You're only going to do it once and it's easy to do from the display.
