what is the joke of not coming with some sort of way to mount the aquacontroller 2 ? how the heck are you supposed to keep this thing safe without mounting it? is there a mount for seperate purchase? if not WHY? anyone have pics of mounts they have made?
thanks,
robert
is there also a way to turn the backlight off/on I ordered with backlight and it isn't on from premium aquatics and they are not answering the phone maybe shut down for the holidays left message and no return yet.

Hey there,

I can't answer the second part, but the first one, maybe. I haev the ACII. I used velcro. Just be sure not to put the velcro over the battery compartment. Works great. Easily to remove if need be.

velcro is not safe in my opinion if I bump it and knock it off I will be upset. I need a hardmount you know doing it right. at least by my standards.
milwaukee does it right in my oppinion but pinpoint does not just for example

I Agree velcro does not rally cut it! I have a big peice on the back of my AC3 and it sticks great but the after a week it falls off. I dont need to damage it just because it does not come with mounts.

I havent looked into this yet but can you possibly take off the back plate, drill holes and hard mount that way? I agree...they should have thought of this during the development of the product. Pretty weak in my opinion!

I made this mount out of a keyboard slider (Home Depot) and heavy duty grey velcro (HD) it's been up for 4 months and the velcro is as strong as day one.

well drilling it will void the warranty I am sure so that is not an option in my oppinion. I am so serious when I say it will never be velcro. I bump everything and it would be in the water I have experienced this many times before and I am not going there again.
I guess since they didn't care to think about it I wil have to make a frame around it and screw the frame to something. what is it that engineers do while working anyway? you would think someone has asked this question before. must be a profit thing.
nobodies that stupid. are they?

I would try using Silicone to glue the back of the unit to some sort of mounting plate you can screw in or something. The silicone should be more than strong enough to hold the unit on but still be very easy to completely remove from the unit if you desire.

I used strong velcro and it came off after a few weeks. The back of the unit is not smooth, so there are tons of small pockets the velcro does not attach to. Also, since the velcro is so strong, when you try to take the unit down you have to pull so hard the glue from the velcro ont he back of the unit comes off.

I was going to have a friend that does acrylic make me some sort of little stand at 45 degrees that it would sit on with a small guard that slides on the front to keep it from falling off.

I actually made an acrylic "frame" to hold mine in and it has a piece that 90's off that with holes in it to attach it to something. I'll see if I can find a picture of it as it's kind of hard to describe but it doesn't move at all.

here is a really bad picture of it- kind of hard to see the acrylic but I'll try to get a closer picture if you like-

This picture was the 1st hour of having the skimmer on and filling the system with saltwater which is why the water is very cloudy.

thats an awesome setup. did you get the chiller done from our thread? the tonytooth thread? I was the one who built his.

That thread was definately the inspiration for it- I learned a lot from it and it gave me a good place to start. I went a slightly different way as I used 1/2 of a mini-split system and a TXV. It is VERY efficient and works great. I had to do some major reading up on A/C systems and scratch my head a lot to get the final product but I am very happy with the results. Thank you guys for making the original thread about it. I still need to hook up my Ranco as a secondary controller so I have a backup for the Aquacontroller but since it's winter I'm not in a hurry :).

Years ago I bought some super Velcro of some sort for a radar detector and it was so strong it just about ripped my dashboard when trying to separate it. I'm not sure what it was called but there would be no way that would fall off.

thanks dr but I was very serious when I said no velcro. you couldn't refund my money on the controller and make me use velcro.
sidewinder I was trying to find someone to let me make a heatpump on there system with no luck as of yet. I don't run a chiller or I would do one for myself.

take some long zip ties staple them to a mounting board to fit your controller. place it over them and zip tie it down :) leave it a bit loose so that you can remove it if needed. or use thin rope or wire for the same effect. if interested I can post a pic.

thanks I already made an acrylic holder. no bad neighborhood ideas either. zip ties look nasty even when black. I would post pics but mine are 80kb and too large to post here

I just mounted the battery cover on my stand with 2 screws. It stays secure and slides off for battery replacement. ;)
