i am just curious why richards method of farming rock is not being propagated into the pacific and throughout the world. maybe i am missing something but it seem to me that there should be no "harvesting" from existing reefs anymore.

why isnt this happening?

money.

whole, local economies have been built around the harvesting of live rock, sand, fish and corals.

why won't we stop emitting huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. money. and the "need" to have it all.

It costs money to purchase the rock and deliver it to the location. Then you have to wait for the investment to mature before you can harvest it. Since harvesting LR from our reefs is illegal, aquaculture is the only option for anyone wanting to be in the business.

In other parts of the world, it is still legal to gather LR from reeks (or at least not policed) so the folks there have no reason to do things the ethical way.
