AquaForest Program

Throwing in the towel. Can't get my algae to stop blooming. Operator error I'm sure, but loosing a couple acro colonies took the wind out my of sails and I literally stopped testing and caring for the tanks. Sg was 1.029 which is not like me. Bye AF, it was fun.... not

Been watching this thread as I was using the full AF probiotic range switching from Triton (gradual transition) then arrived stn and algae bloom. All dosing started at 50% I've not switch to Tropic Marine Balling A-, K+ elements and Bacto Balance. Tanks turned a corner again and back on track.

Guess some have luck some don't.

I have read a quite a bit of this topic and have a question for any of you running the full system.

Have any of you checked the potassium level in your tanks? Some of the STN issues could be linked to low Potassium levels. Another symptom is if any of your montipora's have lost any color (duller).
From my read this system sounds similar to Zeovit and Zeo is know to strip Potassium and is often added back using K-Balance.

I run full system minus the zeo/carbon/phos minus as my nutirents are already low. (started tank on this system from the beginning).

To your point I do dose Potassium every other day and I do not have the issues listed above.

I've ordered Salifert Potassium test, should have it in couple days. My monti cap was really pale and I started dosing some AF Kalium. After week of dosing color is much better

If I remember my Zeovit reading accurately potassium is one of the elements that gets depleted rapidly in a Zeovit system and can be accelerated even more by over skimming.
Zeovit recommends using a Venturi or Beckett style skimmer because needle wheel style skimmers just remove elements to fast. I remember some people actually shut their skimmers off after dosing for 2-3 hours to minimize this as well.

I don't know the science behind it I just remember reading it.

Interesting on the Kalium thought as Kris said the same thing. I was one of the guys to challenge AF and ask why it wasn't in the ABC so bought a bottle of Kalium and dosed daily accord to the recommended dose. The salt also has the levels at or near the recommended levels and did my large weekly WCs so unsure really.

I wonder if it would be easier to start a system using this instead of converting over. Im guessing even going slow shocks an established system

Currently i'm using BRS 2-part dosing (on dosing pumps) on my tank and supplementing BRS Mg adhoc and Coral E, Coral B, Coral V, and acroPower. I also have an auto water change set up replacing 1 gallon every other day with Red Sea Coral Pro salt.

I'm about out of BRS 2-part and was thinking about switching over to AF components 1,2,3 all on Dosing Pumps.

Do you see any issue with switching over to AF 3-part while using the other supplements / salt? should I stop anything?

I sure do see an issue. The pro salt is packed with trace and so is the 1,2,3 three part. Stick with what works.

Thanks, that was my thought as well. But thought I'd ask. I really like the convenience of being able to buy it local plus the premix. I also like their Suite of products.

I wish I could say my setup currently works. But I'm running into very pale and/or bleached looking Corals now for a while. I won't clutter up this thread with that discussion. Going to post it in another

Tweaked- any problems when you switched back to regular salt? I'm pulling the plug this weekend as well and going back to god old regular IO.

I only used it for about 6 weeks, but I travel so much for work I'm not even sure why I started it.

I'm hoping switching back to IO won't cause any problems. Stopped dosing AF this morning and water change using IO tomorrow and fingers crossed no major problems.
