How will these be controlled? Do we need to buy a controller like the older version?

I want to try the color one but currently, I have one radion and I actually have the greens and reds off because I didn't like the look.

If I order the color, can just the greens and reds be replaced for blues to make it a "Blue"? Just in case I don't like the look either.

Definitely want to order one and try it out....So...tempting...ok, ordering one lol

They say you can control all the LEDS? If you don't like greens or reds, you can get the Vega without them.

No, I don't think they have. I did ask how many I needed for my tank and my pre order was based on that.

I mean just control the whole fixture itself. I want to give their "color" a try but just in case I don't liek their greens and reds, i want to know if there is the possibility to change them to blues.

Edit**

Just read this:

All versions of the AI Vega — the Vega Color and the Vega Blue in all colors — will cost $499 retail and come loaded with wireless control, although the existing AI Sol controller will not be able to control the AI Vegas. As we learned with AI’s PowerPuck program you will be able to further fine tune the color configuration of individual pucks for either the AI Vega Color or the Vega Blue with new pucks starting out around $50.

I guess I will be probably spending an extra $100 in case I don't like the green and red pucks.

They will come with wireless control as mentioned above, so no need for an external controller such as the SOL controller that is out now. AI has not release any info as far as PAR or spreads yet, however all LED's in the Vega are using 80* optics, where as the SOL used a mix of 40* and 70* optics.

How many would I need to light up a 48"x 24"x20? I currently have one radion with one 250w MH and would like to replace the MH and compare the Vega with the Radion side by side.

I would think that two modules would be plenty for you with the Vega's since they are using the 80* optics in them and the increased light output.

Controller Question?

Controller Question?

Jeremy,

I pre-order two of the vegas from you guys and have been looking around for more information on them. I saw while I was doing an online search that another vendor is selling controllers that would work with the vega and sol. My question is are these controllers necessary for the vega's? Or will we be able to use just our computers or a smart phone app? Thanks

You will need the new wireless controller to run these we just found out. Pricing will be released on them in the next few days, in which we'll have preorders up very soon.

@LinkinReef, we should still be getting our first shipment of them (still plenty to go around for preorders available) in mid August. The controllers will be shipping with them at the same time. AI has not released pricing on the controller just yet, which is why we do not have it up for preorder at this time.

@mwminer, It's really hard to say since I haven't tested them yet. However, knowing the LED's they're using with the optics that's on them you'll certainly be able to get by with a single row on a 30" tank without having to get them really high to cover front to back like you would with the SOL's. I would think 1 module per 24" - 30" of tank length is going to be about right as well, so for you I'd suggest starting off with 4 modules total.

I just got word that the new wireless controllers will be retailing for $79.95, and will be on the first shipment of the Vega's when they head out from AI!

Any word of how these lights can be used through a third party controller like the APEX. Hopefully we dont need 20 variable speed ports to run this fixture.
