aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

WOW, that must stink and I can't believe you actually touched it. lol...

:spin2: not sure what I was thinking! I had just gotten off work and yes, it smelled awful. I got caught by the wife when she returned from work herself shortly after the pics. "OMG! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? IT WREAKS IN HERE!" I won't be doing that again anytime soon.

Great to hear! Soon you can get back to skimming and enjoying your tank.

Looking forward to some action shots when you get it going!

Happy reefing!

MD's customer service is very good! Got the new impeller install and run about 3 days. noise level is down a lot.
but Not dead silence . Still can hear a very slight buzz sound but already good enough for me. After running for about 3 days, already filled half collection cup with dark "liquid". Much better than the my old vertex in-180. So far love it, best for the money.

Got my CO-2 setup yesterday. I had to babysit it for a few hours to get the foam level correct. Once I thought I had it dialed in I left the house for 30mins to run an errand. Come back to find the adjustment tube had popped off and the skimmer gushing.....anybody ran into this problem?

I read it happened to another member here. their issue was that they were running it at 10 inches or so and had to open the standpipe a bit too much and the threads never caught quite right. How far open was the standpipe and what level are you running it at?

May be a threading QC issue but those seem to be rare with the ConeS line.

Hey Tivo! How goes it?

Have you run the AquaMaxx HOB skimmer? If so, thoughts? Looking at a HOB for my 20g but need something super quiet as the tank is right by my bed.

Thanks! Hope all is well.

Hi rtparty

All is good! Working like a maniac though- yuk!

I had the WM H2. The aquamaxx hob is the clone with a bit better design. It was quiet but not silent. I had a micro issue with it for about a month before I figured out that putting a micro valve in the air line would fix it (just too much air). My WM didn't come with the valve but the new aquamaxx does. They also have the newer syncra pumps and a better designed plate IMO. Some still have had micro issues with the aquamaxx but tuning them is much easier now. My WM performed very well. Second only to my mce 600. The mce had the aquacr@p (bee) and the WM was more reliable of the two.

You may want to check out the eshopps hob (pk75 I think) I've heard really good things from people and they are using the same sicce pumps now as aquamaxx.

Hope all is good with you and happy reefing

Must be the threads not catching right....its at 9" right now and skimming a nice tea colored brew.

Do you guys dump and clean your cups every day? Or do you find it skims better if there is a little film on the neck?

Hi knight!

Hope all is well!

I would suggest weekly cleaning unless you are getting tons of buildup in the neck quickly. If you're getting a lot of thick buildup then I would suggest closing the standpipe a little more or running it a 1/4 in deeper. When I completely clean my cup I lose about a days worth of good skimming before it bounces back.

Happy reefing

I purchased a ConeS CO-1 for a future tank that I thought was going to be 75-80 gallons. Now it's looking like a 105 with probably another 15g in sump. I'm thinking that this skimmer may be a little undersized for my setup. It was bought at MD and is unused so I could return it for full refund. Problem is I got a good deal on it around Black Friday and hate to part with it if it will preform. Tank will start out light load but we know how that goes over time. Any thoughts?

I would go with the co2

Yeah that's what I'm thinking either trade it back for a CO2 or just use my old Lifereef and spend the money on a more efficient pump. Thanks reeftivo

Either way you should be fine. Lifereef's are good skimmers. The CO 1 would have rocked your 80 +\- volume but above 90 would have been pushing it IMO.

I have to credit you with a great review and quick response to all.

Thanks bowfront

Been busy but try and chime in when I can. I'll only comment on skimmers I've used, toyed with or seen in action and try not to bash.

Merry Christmas and stay away from the stores.

I was guilted into going to the mall last night and boy that was a nightmare:uzi:

Happy Holidays

Tivo:)

I am seriously on the fence about buying one of these. They look really nice and i have heard nothing but good reviews so far. Keep info coming. Have there been any comparison vids done between this and other skimmers?
