aquamaxx ConeS CO 1 skimmer review

i have started to look at the coneS CO 1.
is it still in use?

Hey YoungREEFA

Yes, my CO 1 is still in use and working great. It's almost boring now because it's so stable and quiet that I never think about it until WC/ maintenance time.

The omega 130 is next in my sites but I doubt we will see it anytime soon due to some sort of beef going on now with royal exclusive and vertex. Something to do with builds done in china?

Happy reefing

In my local craigslist there is an omega 130 for 225! 2 weeks old, im not sure i will hop on it as the ConeS is so sexy its like a rocket ship!

Do you guys have the regular Cone 1 and 2 or the Cone "S" 1 or 2? I just noticed that Aquamaxx has two different types of cone skimmers. It looks like the Cone "S" model is better built and has some type of special bubble plate. I wonder if they both perform similarly?

The original cone ( blue one) performs very well and comes in sizes up to 16". They're Aquamaxx's best skimmers.

Thanks Drae. I just received a Marine Depot 15% off coupon and placed the order for an Aquamaxx Cone-2! Great timing and price was just under $250 shipped!

Also, I noticed that the water exits through a gap in the adjustment tube? hows that working?

No issues with the output at all. Nice thing too is that as the water exits, it creates a wide flow and with it being fairly close the the surface, it creates nice surface agitation in my sump.

Flippin' marine depot! Arrg! I just bought an eheim compact + for my chiller and reactor day before yesterday. Next day after I got tracking, the 15% reefapalooza shows up in my inbox. That's happened a bunch of times with me. Oh well.

Great thread. Couple quick questions..

1). Where's the water exiting, does anybody have a pic?

2). Are there any bubble escape issues? I have an open sump and require minimal/zero bubbles.

There's no such thing as a skimmer that doesn't release some micro bubbles ime. There's a wedge pipe that has a hole in it on the outlet plumbing for the water to exit. The "gate" or sleve over the wedge pipe screws up and down over the hole to determine water level in the skimmer. Works pretty good.

The water exits just under the standpipe bracket and it does create good surface agitation in my sump compartment.

I've had no micro-bubbles at all from day one.

On top of that this is the most stable and consistent skimmer I have ever had.

Was at reefapalooza today and watched the rep from aquamaxx show off the CO 1. There was a lot of buzz over the aquamaxx line and lots of people at the show. Almost walked out with a cad artisan tank for 700 (such nice seams) but the wife was with me and gave me that look:mad2:

Update on how it performs after is been broken in for a while.

Super quiet
Super easy to clean
Pump always restarts, silent with no clicking

Three weeks worth of skim. I was a week tardy in cleaning the cup.
Not bad for a medium stocked 39 gal display

And that's on a 39 gallon cad. Think about the muck that thing would pull from a 75 gallon or so.

I bought the AquaMaxx Cone-2 few weeks ago. Skimmer works great. But the pump make a lot of noise. What could case that?
I just plugged mine in and feel the same way. loud humming noise thats quite noticeable. Hoping it quiets down after a week as others have indicated.

I checked the the impeller inside the pump and found out that impeller shaft had crack.
I already contacted MarineDepot for this.

Let us know how everything works out! MD is pretty good about making thing right for the consumer.

The pump should quiet down when the impeller gets coated. If you haven't already, make sure you check the base of the pump and that the rubber feet are contacting the bottom of the sump or whatever you have it paced on. If it is not resting flush it can cause excess vibration at the Union to the body.
